PAL to NTSC

Hi Guys,
This may be a really stupid question but can anyone tell me if it's possible to turn a fully edited PAL project into an NTSC version and then burn to disc enabling it to be viewed in an NTSC machine?
I'm in the UK and need to send a disc over to the USA so I was just wondering if it can be done.

Hi Pringle
Some players in the US are now able to play Pal discs mainly the cheaper ones.

Some PC edit programs can convert Pal to NTSC but results vary

I do convert the Film Fest discs to NTSC to send to the USA and no complaints so far but i do have the Samsung conversion VCR which i use to convert Pal to NTSC which i then record in NTSC on a Panasonic DVD recorder so the menu is basic.

Thanks for the quick reply.

What I was really hoping for was that there was some hidden option on my Renommee plus that enabled the project to burn in NTSC without the need for convertions with other pieces of equipment.

In the past, I've fed the footage out into my Panasonic DMR-E20 which I was led to believe burns discs in Region 0 which enables them the compatability to be played all over the world but today I had one come back as unplayable and they have tried in two different players.

I don't know the type of players they used as I do know Sony DVD's are notorious for not playing any burnt discs anywhere in the world!

Hi Pringle
I've always understood that you had to convert footage to the format you require but these days i could be wrong.

The Panasonic DVD recorders have the option to change from Pal to NTSC but i don't think they do any conversion of footage.

Not sure about the Renommee + but with my Solitaire i can load the NTSC version of S.E. but still need a true NTSC input to edit the footage which is why i use the Panasonic,just a lot easier,sorry i can't be of more help.

You could edit NTSC on your Renommee, but you would have to install the NTSC version of Smart Edit and then edit with NTSC footage. The system does not have built-in standards conversion... however I should point out that the DVD Arabesk does not create/stamp Region Codes -- so as long as your audience, across the pond, has a DVD player that will play PAL disks they should be fine!
