What are the steps to take, when dubbing via firewire, from one editor to another?
(Avio DVD to Prestige)

Hello Sid,

There are/have been a range of different levels of success transferring video between different Casablanca units (and between a Casablanca and a computer with video board/DV port) over the years. It varies with the OS and the device.

If it's going to work for you (given your hardware/software) you would need to either
1. set-up two monitors, one on each device so you can click Play on the source and Record on the destination OR
2. get your trackball positioned precisely on the playback unit on the play button (in either Finish menu or Storyboard) and then switch monitor over to the Destination (record) device to click Record button once you begin playback of the other device.
REMEMBER: Never to connect two devices of any kind with DV (firewire) cables with both units powered on.

If it's not working - the solution is to export out via Firewire to a camcorder/DV deck, and then import that into your other device.

Regards,
Chet

"REMEMBER: Never to connect two devices of any kind with DV (firewire) cables with both units powered on."
Okay…just to "Clarify" : Make "Sure", the devices are connected to each other, (Via Firewire)..."BEFORE", both units are powered on. Correct?

Sid.

You will need two Trackballs (mouse) and two monitors.
(1) Turn both editors OFF, connect Firewire cable between editors. Connect Audio/Video cables from editors to the monitors as you normality would.
(2) Turn on record editor let it boot up.
(3) Click on Video Setting and set input to DV.
(4) Click on Project Setting and pick an empty project, give it a title, set Image and Format as needed
(5) Turn on play editor, let it boot up.
(6) Click on Project Setting and pick the one to transfer.
(7) Click on Finish and set "Record TO VCR” to DV.
(8) Click play on play editor.
(9) Click record on record editor

Correct Sid - though technically a person should be find with one of the 2 devices turned off as there is no voltage transferred over the DV cable in that case, but to be extra careful and totally sure. Connect the 2 devices with the DV/Firewire cable first, then power up.

Although it can be done with only 1 monitor (done it a number of times myself) John's process using two monitors is much easier!
