card reader
The card reader on my Claro has given up the ghost half way through a project. I suspect the card reader or photo transfer is at fault as it had read the same pix quite OK on another project and the card had not been changed in any way and read OK on the same model reader on my PC. I also tried several other cards that had not been changed in any way since working OK. I would like to try a reinstal of both programs to see if that will fix things but I'm unsure of exactly how to do it and whether it would need a destructive reinstal thus wiping all projects still on the drive. I have the Claro boot CD which contains all programs the machine is running. Can anyone help this old (just celebrated my 79th) and not very knowledgeable amateur?

Re: card reader
Barrie, You shouldn't have to do a destructive install to reinstall your card reader software. Actually I would first check to be sure the USB cable between the card reader and your unit is plugged in properly. It might have wiggled loose at either end , and its possible the cable may be bad also. A couple of other possibilities are that the card you are using is not plugged into the card reader fully, or you may have plugged say your Memory stick card into the wrong slot (SD) or whatever.
If you have Photo Studio, see if your unit will accept the card reader pictures. If it works that way I would suspect that the Photo Transfer software got corrupted somehow. If it wont work with either software, Its probably your card reader or it's software. To re-install one of the softwares such as the card reader, Photo Transfer, Place your all software CD into the dvd drive and then go into System Settings and select Install Product. After a few minutes for your unit to read the disk you will have displayed a list of software that says hidden (not installed) or Active (Installed). Find the software you wish to re-install and select Delete. This will remove the software from your unit, then select Activate and it will reinstall that software fresh and new. If you have more than one software to do, you have to do them one at a time. This will not cause you to lose any projects.
Once you have determined that it isnt any hardware such as the cable or the reader, and you have re-installed the software and it still wont work then You may be looking at a full destructive install. Dont cross that bridge until you get to it though.

Re: card reader
You could also plug your card reader into your PC or Mac to see if it works there. Also, if it doesn't, try a different card - perhaps the original card is now defective.

Re: card reader
Thanks Bob and Paul. Bob: Good to know a destructive instal is not needed. I'll let you know how a simple reinstall goes. I had checked the reader connection and it seems OK. Paul: Ditto for connecting to the PC.
Boy what a great board this is.

Re: card reader
Eureka! All is well again. It didn't even need a reinstal. It WAS the connection. It seemed OK when I first checked it, but a little more fiddling proved a winner. Just how the darn thing became inoperative must remain a mystery. Thanks again fellahs--you've made my day.
