Hard Drive Upgrades & Smart Edit Software

Hello,
I recently went on line, (ebay), and purchased both a Prestige, and an Avio dvd unit.,
(neither one of the units came with anything, just the editors themselves), anyway...
After some research, online shopping, (and an email, or two), to Macrosystems,
i managed to obtain codes for the software that is already activated on the editors.,
(smart Edit 3, and above, w/minimum 120gb hd's installed on the units)
My attempts to install larger hard drives into these editors, left me with messages:
(The Arrow Icon), to insert the proper smart edit card for the units i'm working on.
I downloaded the "General SW", on Macrosystem's site, only to find that the cd,
automatically shuts down the unit(s) i'm working on, (hmmm...)
both units work fine otherwise, so i would like to know how to obtain the smart cards,
(with the right "Smart Edit" software), in order to boot up these editors.
(I know this has been done before...by someone...somewhere)., anyway...
Here's wishing you and family, a Merry Christmas, and a Prosperous New Year!

Sid:
You Will need a SmartMedia Card for each editor. Each card has to have the operating system for that editor, one card for the Prestige and one card for the Avio. I thinks the cost is about 25.00 per card. You can email Carroll Lam for more info. at: http://clamcamvideo.com/

As John points out - to install a new Hard Drive into these Smart Edit OS Casablanca editors you will need the Smart Edit OS on a Smart Media Card. This is obtainable from a Casablanca reseller (like Carroll Lam as suggested) or from MacroSystem US. If you don't already have a relationship with a good reseller I would encourage you to consider this route (you'll find the on-line list of authorized resellers here: http://www.macrosystem.us/Find_a_Reseller.php )

You could have just one Smart Media Card if both units were on the same OS Version. Once the HDD has the OS installed you can then use the Software CD to upgrade or update the OS software but these units did require the Smart Card to initialize a new HDD.

Hope that helps!

Regards,
Chet

Since you say you did not receive any manuals with your units, you might want to look at http://macrosystem.us/index.php?pr=Smart_Edit, where you can down load smart edit manuals. I know they only go back as far as OS V5, but they will give you most of the information you require for OS V3

The Avio 'might' require Hard Drive Expander software (if it doesn't already have it) and more RAM - 256Mb, for drives larger than 120Gb.

So, here's how it went…[Summary:] Installed 2TB SATA HDDs, (in each of the Avio DVD units)…with Great Success!!!
Found smart cards, (w/vers. 3.1SE, and SW), completed initial OS/SW installation, (still scratching my head over the, "YES and NO", prompts during installation).
1. Installed SE-OS from smart card, (lower OS version accepted), 2. upgraded to current SE-OS, previously activated on editor(s).
3. Installed SW obtained from SW discs/smart cards.
NOTE: The 3.5" SATA hard drive, (w/ATA-IDE adapter installed), will not fit inside the 'Drive Tray, of the Prestige.,
(I believe i have a, "Work-Around", for this also), [fingers crossed]
Briefly speaking…i learned a lot, (and had fun in the process),
NOTE: Yes… i have other editing SW, but this turned out to be a good project…for an evening's work.,
NOW…what Else…can i get my hands into? hmmm…
