pops in audio transfer

I have been using Digital Juice music tracks for the past 9 years. When MS came out with the audio file transfer, that was a beautiful thing!! I do have the latest upgrade for OS7.0.
What has happened lately is that when I do the transfer, the music has pops in it. It isn't on the original. So the way around it is to input it the old fashion way(realtime). It is ok for a song or two, but I have 10 songs to input. That is about 30 minutes of wasted time.
Anyone had this problem before? Is there a fix?

Thanks!

I use the Digital Juice library of music as well and have not had any problems with loading it in the Audio record screen.

Just did a DVD tonight with many DJ pieces included that were all loaded in via the DJ CDs. I don't know what may be affecting it to produce the pops but If I find the answer I'll get back on here with it.

I noticed that it only happens when I use the stack tracks. It works fine with the backtrack cd's. Have you used the stack tracks? It happens with all the stack tracks I have- 2,6, 7,25, 33.

This is not a new problem. When importing audio like piano music or other pieces that have a lot of treble, static or pops will occur. I have asked MSDE to upgrade their audio section to 24-bit audio recording and rendering, but they have not made any changes in this regard. I do have hope they will someday. They have a lot on their plate right now. I do most of my audio mixing on a Mac Mini with Soundtrack Pro 2 using Logic Studio. I do use the Audio section of my S-4000 Pro for some things but my more intensive project where audio quality is a must, I use other means and ways.

I then transfer the finished Mixed audio back to my S-4000 when I create a final mix to DVD Arabesk.

That is a shame that this is a problem, even with the newest system. I hope they start getting the audio issues solved. If the tech team reads this, we need better audio tools!!!!!! Need to also do a simple fade as mentioned on another post.

Hello,

I just did a test to see if I could make my DJ CDs create the popping problem that I have never experienced before.

Tried 3 different CDs and recorded songs from each of them as I normally would......no problems.

Then tried the same songs with the recording levels set a little hot.....and noticed a tiny amount of crackling or popping sounds. Then tried it with the levels way way too high and they popped and cracked all over the place.

Digital audio just can't be overloaded like we used to do with analog stuff before. It's really not forgiving at all.

So it appears to me anyway, that making certain that the recording levels are cut back a little might be the answer.

But then, I'm sure this has occurred to you guys as well. If there are any other ideas about were this comes from, be sure to pass it on to us here on the forum.

I read that Bogart SE2 will have audio improvements like a declicker, denoise and even a 10 band equalizer as well as the ability to MERGE tracks.

Jim,
Did you record using analog? If so, I have no problem recording with analog either. It only happens when I import the files through the renommee .
I may be confused, but are you also saying that I can control the volume level before I hit "import track"? Please let me know how?

Hello Jeff,

I recorded directly from a Digital Juice CD using the CD import button in the Audio Record section. It's the button that has a CD and Red Record dot symbol next to it. In that section you will find a volume control slider at the top of the page before you click on the CD import button. Using the slider before hand allows you to control how "Hot" your audio is when it comes from the CD onto your hard drive. I have been in the habit of cutting all recordings down by about 3 dbs all the time to avoid over loading.

I was curious to see how long this volume slider has been in our systems.....so I fired up my old AVIO which still has operating system 4.1C on it and the volume slider has been there ever since. Because you have A Renommee Plus you must have at least OS 5.0 or maybe even 6.0. So I believe that this volume control is available for you to pre-set your recorded audio levels before capturing your DJ music to your Casablanca hard drive.

When I record from a CD into my Cassie, I always play it back to make sure that the audio levels don't go into the yellow section of the audio playback meter. If it does, I re-record going even lower.

This insures that if I choose to raise the audio levels during my audio editing and tweaking of music and effects, I have headroom before it goes above the yellow and into the red area of the meter which is asking for digital suicide and audio squeekts and squawks and missing information later.

It took me a long time to get used to recording in Digital after 30 years worth of analog recording through mixers and graphic equalizers. But I did learn to keep it under recorded in the first place, in case I had to raise it later in the final mix.

So in answer to your question..... I was recording in Digital and not analog.

Using the slider before hand allows you ... ard drive.
Jim,
I tried this several times. I even changed the input to the right of the slider, thinking that would make a difference. I tried front, back and the dv settings. But adjusting the slider has no effect on the audio while bringing it in via the cd inport. I am using OS 7.0
Either your machine is unique or I am still doing something wrong.
This is what I did. I put the cd in, adjusted the audio slider to -27 just to see if it did anything. Then I clicked on the display contents in the cd import window. Selected a track. Played the track once imported and the audio is the same level regards of where I move the slider.

Any suggestions?
