Hi, Anyone have a recommendation for a cheap (usable) USB flat bed scanner for Bogart and Photo Studio :?:

Hello Michael,

I have used several different models of Epson scanners to create JPEG files of photos, images and then successfully imported into my Casablanca editors (both Smart Edit and Bogart). Is there something in particular you (or a colleague) is looking for?

Chet

Nothing special ;)

We/he has a Canon with only a single USB for power and data - I was hoping that this would work as it's a simple (cheap) scanner but it didn't as no power lights came on the scanner when connected.

Tried it with a USB powered hub but that didn't help - scanner works fine (using its own software) on a Mac.

Great question. Anyone know of one that works directly to our system? I use a Canon via my PC>then to a USB drive to my editing system.

I do not believe any Scanner will work directly with the Casablanca editors (neither the Smart Edit or Bogart OS) as they do not have the 'driver' software that is required for the scanner to connect with the mother device. As you may know, even some computers do not have this software initially, and must be downloaded from a disk or live from the printer manufacturer's website.

There were a few models of printer that would work with the Caladansoftware on the Casablanca - only because the Casablanca OS had the printer driver software embedded.

Chet

I think the Cassie uses a 'TWAIN' driver - not to be confused with "Beachy" :D

This should enable the device to be controlled independently, albeit in a basic manner.

I think the issue here is just getting power to the Canon scanner through the USB.

I'm sure I've used an Agfa (mains powered) scanner with a Solitaire a long time ago but since most scanners are now built into print/fax/scanning machines I doubt if they'd work as they are a bit more complicated.

Has anyone a standalone USB scanner that they could try - even with Photo Studio in Demo mode :?:

I do not know if this will help you very much.

I use a Epson Scanner V200 Photo (purchased 6 years ago -- on sale and not expensive). I use a 2006 Pro Mac and Photoshop 9. I scan at the highest pics per inch, which create large files, so I use all 4 hard drives on my Mac Pro. Hard Drives are not expensive these days. Note -- RAM is also important when editing on Photoshop (I have 18 GB of RAM). I work with old photos -- from the 1800's to current. Crop for good composition and hand/eye clean at extreme close-up for cleanest, sharpest possible photo. I also add color to B & W. I save the large clean file and also reduce to 1080 16X 9 format. Download to a Flash Drive (and CD for archive/storage) and add to S6000 unit for editing.

The quality of image is awesome. I keep the high-end CD photo files safe for use in future 4K projects and photos upon demand.

Some photos can take many hours to clean (I watch movies on Netflix while cleaning on a large monitor). For me this is fun.

Here is a public sample of what I do. Hope this helps. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WQQYYlRNJng I do a lot of private work for older people that want to preserve their life 'histories'...
