Posted: Wed Oct 22, 2008 9:31 pm
As announced in the Casablanca E-Storyboard, we are on the 'cusp' of release for the Smart Edit 8 Operating System for the Casablanca II products (AVIO, Kron/Plus, Prestige, Renommee/Plus, Solitaire/Plus, Liberty/Plus, Claro and Gymnos.
We expect a release in the first week of November (barring unforeseen delays, of course) and are planning to release first to members of Club Casablanca - likely during the last week of October 2008. Pricing information follows at the end of this section and you can view screen shots of some of the new benefits on our website here
NOTE: Customers who own an S-4000/PRO will be receiving a free upgrade to the forthcoming Bogart SE OS V2.
I have had the delight this week in Dallas at our seminars hosted by CAM Audio to share with folks here the new benefits of the Smart Edit 8 Operating System (running a beta version of Bogart 2 - which is the S-4000/PRO equivalent of Smart Edit 8). Here is a list of my favorite new features that will be added to your Casablanca with the new Smart Edit 8 Operating System:
IMPORT FONT
With Smart Edit 8, you have the ability to import additional fonts into your Casablanca for use in the Titling menus. You can import any True Type Font (.ttf) via CD or USB flash media and it becomes available in the Font choices in the Titler. This dramatically increases the choices of characters in your titling ? and for corporate videography, enables you to match fonts to a company's marketing campaign/image.
MARK SCENE & ACTIONS
You can click and mark a scene/s in your Scene Bin and move them around (organize scenes in Scene Bin). You can also mark a number of scenes (in series or not) and add them to the Storyboard with one button!
TIMELINE MODE
This option shows your Storyboard in a brand new view ? rather than storyboard is provides a Timeline view where each scene is displayed as an element that is relative to the length of the entire project (a longer scene occupies more space than a shorter scene). And there are separate 'tracks' to display video inserts, titles, IP effects and transitions. In the Audio Mix screen you also see your multiple audio tracks. You have the option of zooming in or out to suit your preference.
SCENE MARKERS
Each clip in the Scene Bin provides additional indicators to inform you about each clip: markers indicate if a scene has been trimmed (in or out), if a scene is the result of a Scene effect, and we continue to see a mark if a scene is placed in the Storyboard. And (drum roll please...) you can mark a series of scenes and when you click add you can choose to add just one scene or the entire marked batch of the scenes to the storyboard at once!
FAVORITE EFFECTS
With this setting engaged (System Settings, Additional Settings) your most recently used effects will be displayed at a new top section in the effects list. The ten most recently used effects will be displayed (they also remain in the 'regular' list below, in alphabetical order as before).
STORYBOARD CREATION
With this new button in the Edit screen, you can create all transitions, effects, titles and audio in your Storyboard which enables you to fully view your work in progress without having to visit the other menus. This is a huge time saver!!
INSERT REAL TIME PREVIEW
When using the Insert/Range operator to adjust video inserts you now have the option to display both the base scene and the inserted scene side by side, playing in real time so you can see what is being masked by the insert scene.
EFFECTS STACK
In the Special and Image Processing screens you have a new custom setting - this allows you to select multiple Image Processing effects and apply them to a scene with a single effect setting. You can even save (archive) your effect stacks and load them for future project work.
ENHANCED CLIPBOARD
You now have the ability to select additional scenes in the same project or another project and add them to the clipboard while it remains open (no longer the need to close the clipboard with each imported scene). The Clipboard Options also give you the option to adjust for aspect ration differences (how you wish to modify scene if you are import 4:3 scene into a 16:9 project and visa versa).
GRAPHIC/LOGO OVERLAY
You can import your own picture or graphic (.png file) and automatically superimpose over your finished storyboard. This is a great way to provide video clips with a watermark, etc.
TIME/TIME CODE OVERLAY
Smart Edit 8 also allows us to superimpose the running time or the original DV time code onto a finished storyboard as you export to tape or disk. This can be useful to provide the client with a window dub - they can review and share accurate feedback information to you for revision. You could also superimpose your company name and contact info for demo tapes.
SOUND AFTER CREATION
With this function enabled (System Settings- Additional Settings), your Casablanca will provide an audible alert (sound) when it has finished rendering (creating) an effect/s. You can adjust this so it only does so on longer renders ? I see this as particularly valuable when creating a long title or image processing sequence. You can be working on another task in the same room or nearby and when you hear the alert you know you are ready to continue editing.
And there are a number of additional benefits included with your Smart Edit 8 Upgrade - please see our website here for additional information: http://macrosystem.us/Software/Smart_Edit_8.html

Chet
