Help needed for 24F footage

Post by Christopher6206 »

Hello! I'm trying to import HDV footage from a Cannon XHA1s at 24F. It was a mistake I had the camera set to this but none the less I have about 11 min of footage I need to import into my S4000Pro. When I do import it the footage is jittery and speed up slightly. Audio is unusable. The Cassie is normally set to 30p or 60i I get that but I have imported SD footage set at 24 F many times without issue. This is done with the camera is transferring 8mm film so the camera is not actually recording anything I'm just capturing the footage in real time. But now I am playing back previously recorded footage at 24F and it's in HD and it's not working. DOes anyone have a work around for this? I can't even use the audio in it's present state. I've tried setting the project at 1080p and 1080i and it still doesn't work. I don't have anything else here that will accept a fire wire input so that I could at least get the footage into my PC and convert a data file. The camera only has HDV out and component out.

SO how do I get 24F HDV footage off of tape and into a format that my Cassie will recognize or get the Cassie to display the footage properly? The viewfinder on the camera looks fine when going into the machine. Only after playing it back does it have a problem. Thanks for any help.

Did you try the analog output from the camera?

Hi Lou, yes the A/V output did work but the footage is in SD and after upconverting it the audio is usable but of course the picture is less than desirable. The Analog component out would be a better choice but Cassie's don't have that kind of input. Or do they? I have seen red green and blue inputs on the back before but they did not look like the RCA type. I'll check it out. Thanks.

I don't know what those inputs on the back are for. I've seen them for years. 6 multicolored inputs that look like 1/8 inch mini plug inputs. It doesn't matter, in an HD project you can't select them. Only DV (or HDV) is available. ANy other suggestions?????

Importing into an old MAC book pro with 6 pin HDV in supplied by an old friend seems to be doing the trick. Final Cut (2007) was able to convert my footage from 24 F to 60i. I'd still like to know why the Cassie wouldn't work with it. It is 2 years newer than that machine.

After importing the footage into Final Cut Pro I ended up with audio and video out of synch. It actually gave me a .mov file that was almost exactly 20% faster than the original footage. I had one clip that was 5 1/2 min long. I slowed it down to 80% speed using twixtor and after a 12 hour render it matched up perfectly with the audio clip I had created from the SD footage. So now I have a usable HD 60i clip. Still, a lot of hoops to jump through.
