I'm no expert but I'd get as much RAM as you can afford with the fastest processor available. And the largest hard drive as well. If and when we hit 4K you are going to need it. My new Karat only has 4GB of Ram but I'd put 16 in it if I could.

Graphic cards are the most important. Get a good one. No matter how much RAM, a poor Graphic card will cause stutter on ANY EDITING SOFTWARE. Of course a later I-5 or I-7 processor is important too.

We're using an HP workstation with a Zeon processor 16 gb ram with 3 internal 2TB HDDs and as Lou recommends a really good Video Card we have an NVIDIA with 2GB of onboard ram. We do run a lot of programs on this workstation so it is a bit more robust than necessary. Def recommend at least an I7 or Zeon processor. 12 or more GB ram. And don't skimp on the video card.

It's a NO on external HDDs. You can still store projects on them but cannot work from them. I have a couple of 2TB Seagate Barracudas 7200 rpm.

I think she has 24 GB of Ram in the new host and I am not sure of the Video card. She is putting in a firewire card now which it didn't have. I am still shooting on DV tape SD but my Goal is to go to a HD camera that shoot on SD cards as soon as I can afford it. Uf I store a project on an External HD can I put it back in and work it? Thank your for your help!

Yes you can. You would have to first put the file back on your computer's HDD then bring it back into B4W.
