Formatting new hard drive

I am currently using a WD "My Book" 4TB hard drive for Store N Share. Since Oct. 2015 I have filled it to capacity. (4TB) Yesterday, I purchased a second WD My Book 4TB HD and when I formatted the drive, it report only 1.67 TB of space available on the Hard Drive. I used a Mac Book Pro disc utility to erase all data on the HD. Using the Karat, I formatted the drive again and ended up with the same result of 1.67 TB of HD space. When I activate the "info" screen, the indication is that the drive is a 4TB capacity drive. Does anyone have a suggestion on what I need to do to access the full 4TB capacity of the Drive. Thanks in advance

Hi Bob,

I used the search term reformat WD My Book 4TB HD and came up with this thread on the WD Community board. Look at the last post (#5) by Jarka where the WD Quick Formatter for Mac is mentioned. Here's the link: https://community.wd.com/t/new-mybook-4 ... 64bit/6212 Let us know how you make out!

No cigar. I tried several combinations of pc version and Mac formatting. I am only getting 1.6 tb useable storage. A pc ap looked at the hard drive showed that the hard drive has 2 storage compartments. Only 1 formats to the Karat file system. I can't get it to format as a single compartment.

It is 2Tb max for "our" Bogart systems - B4W will allow you to use more.

Not really. I'm using an identical 4tb hd and filled it to the max. ''Reason for 2nd 4tb hd"
