Use USB extension for render booster

Hello! Does anyone out there use a USB extension cord for their Render Booster drive? On Macrosystems website here in the US, it specifically says not to do this. It also says to only use the Black USB ports. My black USB ports are only available on the back of both my machines and the both sit underneath my computer desk. Both machines have render booster installed and activated but I only own one Render Booster USB stick. It's a pain in the arse to have to get down on the floor and twist my computer around, making sure no cords get unplugged, find the black USB port with a flashlight, set up the little fan to keep it cool, and plug in the render booster stick. (when I need to switch it out between machines). Additionally, other users on this forum have recommended to not keep the Render Booster USB stick plugged in all the time, unless I'm using it, otherwise I could have problems. So what is wrong with using a USB extension so it sits out in front of the machine and swapping it out would be an easy fix? Has anyone tried using the "not recommended" USB extension? And if so what were the results? I use them for importing and exporting video files to both machines all the time, with no problems.

You get a very short one with the unit but it is just a standard A male to A female USB extension lead.

The Render Booster deals with very high levels of data and every inch you add slows it down by quite a lot.

Even using a front USB socket, for those that have them, adds over 12" to the cable length and so should be avoided.

Maybe you could re-arrange your set up so that the machine sits ON your desk? That's how I installed mine, wide open, easy access to the back, great air flow and never a problem to plug/unplug the RB. Just a thought. BTW I had 2 also and placed one on a shelf above the other with air space between.

Thanks Beth. My set up doesn't really allow for me to put it on the desk. But I'm thinking of rebuilding the shelf under the desk with large lazy susan/turntable so I can just spin it around when needed.

Or one could get another Render Booster, since they are no longer made, and won't be in stock much longer.

The turntable idea may just work! Good luck.
