Sony VRD-MC5 Blu-ray DVD recorder ??

Has anyone had experience with this recorder? It claims to make Blu-Ray compatible DVDs on standard DVDs in 6X real time from Sony AVCHD Hard Drive and memory stick camcorders. Also standard DVDs from any analog input in real time. see: http://preview.tinyurl.com/6f9dhv
This unit could have some applications in the bridge period between "real" Blu-ray stand alone burners or internal burners. I am wondering about a conversion of regular HD to AVCHD to utilize this unit which is available for less than $200.
