No color on S-out from S4KPro.

I have no color on the S video output of my S4KPro on my Sharp 46 inch Sharp LC-46D82U TV. The DVI output to input will display color but not the S video. My Reno S output will display color using the same S cable but not the Pro so it's not the cable. To make it more confusing when I output the S video from my Reno to a tube monitor that has a loop through S connector the looped through S signal won't show color on the Sharp. Any suggestions.

Paul,
Check that you have your output set to YC and not CVBS in System Settings.
I have noticed it defaults back to CVBS with installs and upgrades.
Other than that, make sure you are seating the cable fully and you have the monitor set to the s-video input correctly.
There is a first time for everything, but I have never seen this Black and White s-video output being a bug or defective editor issue.
It's always been either user error or a cable pin being bent or broken and you say you have eliminated it being the cable.

Thanks for the suggestions Tim,
Output set to YC, no color.
Cable set firmly and monitor set to S-video, no color.
Disconnect cable from Pro output and plug into Reno output, I have color.
With Reno output going to different monitor input, I have color.
Going from Pro output to same monitor, I have color.
I know this is crazy but I've run out of theorys. Is there something inside the Pro, in the software, that can sence what kind of monitor is hooked up to it. It doesn't recognize the Sharp input as being a color display so it only feeds it a monochrome signal. I say this because on a couple of other tube monitors, but not all I've tried, there is color. This is just to weird, color on some monitors but not others.

Hi,
I had a problem like this once with a tube TV. Have you tried another input socket on the Sharp if it has one. I seem to remember solving my problem by using a conversion plug to the dreaded European scart socket.

A video signal is an electrical signal so the only thing that makes any scense is that the voltage from the pins in the connector is not up the standard and varies a minute bit and some TV's are just more sensitive to these variations then others. That's why when I tried the loop through method with the Reno the loop through caused a very small voltage drop and thus a black and white picture.

Yes Alan I've tried all the analog output's and it's the same results.

Hi Paul,
normally my S4Kpro is hooked up via HDMI to a multi input Thomson flat screen.
Just for interest because of your problem I changed settings and the S-video is showing color.
Maybe the C-channel input of your monitor isn't sensitive enough?

Thanks Hans for checking that for me, yes that could be the case and if it is I'm "REALLY" bummed because the Sharp is a top of the line, 120 hertz model.

Paul,
I'd suggest it might be an OS installation issue, but you mentioned you can hook it up to another monitor and get color.
Somewhere I know someone was insisting that the analog signal was coming out too hot so that might be your issue as it's happening with your Sharp and not other units.
Why are you wanting to use the inferior s-video hook up instead of the DVI hook up anyway?

The signal is to hot??? I would think it's not hot enough because only part of the signal (luminesence) is being displayed.
I don't know if it has to do with the DVI to HDMI cable (conversion) if you can call it that but when I play back the SD video that the Pro recorded through the HDMI "in" on the TV the video "stutters" a bit but not going S-video or composite "in". If it's a TV issue that's making it do that there's nothing I can do about it. I have no way of testing for that.
On the good side, I can see color when I go composite "in" on the TV though and even when I loop the video through another TV. Both show color. I'm really confused by all this.
