Has anyone used either a nNovia or a Focus Enhancment portable record unit to dump via firewire to a Macrosystem editor?
How did it work or did it not work?

I asked a similar question about the DVR-DV5000 FireStore unit without success. (no replies) It is one of the Focus Enhancement models made specifically for the JVC DV5000 camera. I took a chance and bought one anyway. I've only had it for a few days and have not had much chance to play with it. So far I have found out that you can transfer video from the FireStore hard drive to a Cassie product via firewire with the hard drive still in the base unit Very easy.Just connect the firewire to the same connector as is used with the camera and then to the cassie. Both turned off of course. Set your Cassie unit to record and then hit the play button on the Focus Enhancement unit. I haven't tried just connecting the hard drive only the Cassie, but suspect that it may not work that way. And I definitely don't believe that it will edit direct from the hard drive the way it will on my Mac Book Pro. It's a great option for acquisition when using a camera with mini DV only capabilities. The Focus Enhancement units are much more complex than just a simple hard drive recorder as you can read on their web site. Many great options and features.

Definitely neither unit will allow editing directly from the portable hard drive.
This is a promise, yet unrealized feature of Bogart SE, so only available (when or if ever) for Bogart SE compatible machines.
I used to have an nNovia unit that was fully compatible with our systems including for onscreen menu transport controls as if it were a cam or deck, but I have heard operating software changes in the nNovia drives may have eliminated this compatibility.
