I am trying to add music to a video, and only want ambient sound to go under it, not disappear completely. After the music starts, the ambient disappears. How do I do this? Thanks.

You either have not used Create to render the audio or you have the ambient sound too low/music too high.

Create to render in the Audio Mix (or Finish menu) and then use the audio sliders in Audio Mix to adjust (Create after any adjustment to hear results).

Yellow coded Scenes means unrendered audio (use Create), blue means rendered, red means overmodulated (use audio slider controls to adjust).

Hi Jim

After you put sound on a track you have to create it to hear the final result. When you done that you would have a 50/50 mix from original sound and the music track. If one of the tracks is to loud you go to the correction box (this all be done in the audio mix screen) click that box and you will see all your audio track numbers. Than select a track you want to adjust the volume from (with one being original sound and so fourth) than slide the little slider next to it and play with the correction until you are happy with the result.

Please note: You always have to create the track to hear the correction you have made

Tim beat me with this but this info might help you as well
