TIP FOR PRINTING: DOWNCONVERSION USER-ERROR
Posted: Sun Jan 04, 2009 11:43 am
There have been multiple outright WRONG postings on the listserve that CANON XHA-1 cameras are NOT recognized by SE 8 (even the prior SE 7) and that the DOWNCONVERT function does not allow AUTO-SPLIT with CANON and other HD cameras.
Totally untrue and wrong. The below pertains to not only CANON but to other HD cameras as well.
This does not relate to the KRON vs. HV 20/30 issue.
SO....Let me "clear-up" the downconvert issue ONCE and for all.
==================================================================================================================================
Besides being in the MANUAL (which should be read before erroneously posting non-existent problems) please make a copy of the below and print out for FUTURE reference:
Q: MY DOWNCONVERTED HD WILL NOT IMPORT FROM MY XHA-1 (or any HD camera) to a SD project in SE 8?
When the downconvert from HDV to the SD via the menu function is changed in ANY camera or deck, the FIREWIRE/I-LINK MUST BE DISCONNECTED first in order for the DOWNCONVERT to function so as to be IMPORTED to a SD PROJECT WINDOW. Make the change and place the firewire cable back into the deck/camera while the deck/camera is powered-off. This is the number#1 cause of user-error in regards to camera recognition.
Q: NO MATTER WHAT I DO, I CAN'T IMPORT HD "FOOTAGE" to my HD project.
Make sure that your project is set to HDV and not SD. This is such a common user error.
Q: HEY EVERBODY, I hope they fix the "non-working AUTO-SPLIT function" after I make a successful HD to SD downconvert to the SD PROJECT window.
WELL, it always worked. Always did. Never failed. Why it's even in the SMART EDIT manual.
Simply go to your:
SYSTEM SETTINGS>
ADDITIONAL SETTINGS>CUT RECOGNITION>
TIMECODE>ORIGINAL
This now allows the AUTO-SPLIT function to work the same as any SD project.
I am writing the above steps to address misinformation on the downconvert function as well as camera compatability.
I hope this helps.
