no audio for VGA switchover.
I'm trying to change my Renommee over to VGA mode. I've got the video correct, but can't find a jack in the rear to import the audio. What am I missing here?

Re: no audio for VGA switchover.
Charles,
With some VGA only monitors there is no audio/speaker. You must have a separate speaker to monitor your audio. Some, especially the newer monitors _do_ have the capacity for audio - some with an audio 'bar' which is a speaker that attaches directly to the monitor. Your most cost effective solution (unless you happen to have a powered speaker that takes line level audio) is to pick-up a pair of inexpensive speakers, making certain they have line level audio inputs (even if they are 1/8" mini connectors that can be mated with an adapter, as long as it takes line level audio - not headphone audio).
Regards,
Chet

Re: no audio for VGA switchover.
Hi Chet, thanks for the reply.
My "monitor" is a Phillips Hd 19" lcd tv with tons of inputs on the back, and it has speakers. My editor is now hooked to it in two ways. The first, is through the rca ports, yellow (video) red and white (audio). All works well when I use this "source" selection. The other hookup is through the vga port. I went to system settings (on my Renommee) and selected 1024x768 /60Hz, did the 30 second thing and am getting a very good picture at this "source". However, on the back of my tv, next to the vga port is an audio jack, but there's not one on the back of my Renommee and I'm getting no audio from this source, but I am from the rca ports. So, I guess my question would be, where do get my audio from on my editor when using Vga port?
Thanks,
Chuck

Re: no audio for VGA switchover.
I was mistaken about something. I've just now viewed some of my films that were input using the vga mode (w/no audio) and everything plays back in fast motion (like progressive scan). I watch as the film inputs and it's fine, only when playing back is it like this. Changing the Vga -play and aspect correction has no effect on this. Am I better off to just stay with the rca ports?

Re: no audio for VGA switchover.
Charles, I take it your Reno is set to the one monitor mode, I quit using that years ago, having my work screen on a seperate monitor is so much nicer and it didn't cost me alot either. I got a used 19 inch vga monitor years ago for $30 and a seperate HD TV for viewing the edited video via the S video jack with the audio going to a stereo. So if your using the one monitor set-up forget about the vga input and use the S video and the rca audio to your HD TV. And if you have some half inch plywood laying around you can make yourself a nice monitor riser to tuck your keyboard under that HD TV, mine cost me a total of $3 and that was for a can of black paint.
