Greetings all,
Need some recommendations on an external DVD recorder& burner that has some authoring capabilites. My arabesk 3.2 is acting very strange in so many ways, that it is now deemed unstable.
So, I need to burn about 10 more hours of edited storyboards onto DVD with chaptering out of my Renomee. I have an older Panasonic DVD Video Recorder DMR-E50, which I used to use before I had Arabesk. Now I am spoiled from using the nice Chaptering/Authoring capabilites of the Arabesk. The Panasonic DMR-E50 can make playlists, but not very pretty for the end user!
So, if anyone has any solutions to get the end product of a DVD with chaptering, I would greatly appreciate it.
Justin said that I might havae to do a total re-install, which I have never done before and I have several hours of scenes in the renomee awaiting to be burned.
All ideas are welcome!
Kindest Regards,
Kim in Comfort

Re: DVD recorder burner
Kim,
Your problem with Arabesk is very unlikely actually caused by Arabesk.
Likely, it is your Operating System that is corrupt, especially as you have said you have never did a full, install before.
The other possibility would be the burner itself is going bad.
That is a cheap replacement, about $33 plus delivery.

The Operating System is more likely though.
I would go out to digital tape with your projects as you mentioned, do a full, destructive install and then bring one of the Projects back in and burn a DVD and see if that fixed your problems.
If so, input the rest of them, if not, change the burner.
To do the full, destructive install after exporting all your work to tape you will need a boot OS CD of your whatever Operating System version you own and the Current All Software CD.
You can download the correct files for both and burn them yourself if your PC has a burner from here: http://www.macrosystem.us/index.php?pr=Downloads.
I would suggest downloading and using Deepburner Free which you can download free from here: (http://www.deepburner.com/?pr=deepburner&r=products.
You use ISO file for the format.
You input the OS CD, power down, power up and follow the directions.
Once the OS is successfully installed once again you put the All Software CD and Activate (codes are not needed) those Optional Software that you own.
Then you should be ready to rock and roll with consistent inputting, editing and burning again.

My mom always told me that happiness was the key to life.
At school they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up.
I said “happy" and they told me I didn’t understand the question.

Re: DVD recorder burner
Tim, you have presented problems with solutions I had not considered! Very interesting!
I did install OS 8.1 today, without the destructive install. There are still some quirky things happening, such as when I move the audio bar in the editing bin, it leaves a grey shadow bar in the place I moved it from (top or bottom)... soooo... it looks like you are right, the corruption may originate in the OS.
Thank you so much for your help and solutions!

Re: DVD recorder burner
OOPS! I was wrong in my last post. I said that the audio bar was leaving a grey bar when moved from top to bottom position in edit window. It is actually this : (found this on MSUS website) " There is a display problem if the play counter is moved from top or to bottom. A gray menu bar will appear in it's place."
So, now I know that this is an issue with 8.1, thanks Tim.

Re: DVD recorder burner
Kim,
Using the upgrade path is convenient when they make improvements or fixes in the OS, but I have never seen doing another upgrade in an effort to "fix" something that was working, work with the upgrade method.
A full, destructive install on the other hand is pretty reliable at fixing weird glitches that did not use to happen in an OS you are using.
The process is very inconvenient though if you have multiple ongoing projects.
