HD-Backup Bogart

Post by CliffHawkins »

I am trying to backup my S-4000 Pro. I am running Bogart 2.3E and when I click on Start Backup the screen goes black and returns to the main screen. I am only useing 49.7 % of my Seagate USB Hard Drive. I do have HD-Backup Bogart V 1.1 activated.

Any ideas

Hello Cliff,

Sounds like you have used this HDD for other purposes prior? It is my understanding that the Bogart Backup must first initialize the HDD prior to being able to archive to it. I have not done so, but perhaps then you could save other data to it.

I have two 1-TB external HDDs, one I use just for the Bogart HD Back up and the other I use for storyboard archives (on both my RenoPlus and my S4000 PRO), transferrring data between my WindowsPC, MacPC and my S4000 Pro) and backing up data from my Mac.

Chet

Chet, were did you purchase the TB USB external hard drive from? And how would you initialize the hard drive? Can they be purchased from MacroSystems, all set up?. I know they have to be set up in some particular way to be used on a S4000Pro, right? Before the tax year ends I would like to purchase one.

If it is formatted as Volker states, go to Media Manager and try an upload to the HD of anything in the ARCHIVE bin. At that time, Media Manager will display a prompt and just follow instructions. However, please note, that after this format, Windows will NOT recognize the drive...it will be strictly for BOGART.

Ron,

1. You could use the LaCie 1TB HDD that MSUS offers (which can be ordered through a Casablanca reseller/dealer). I have that drive and use that for my Storyboard Archives on my Renommee Plus. For my S4000 I am using a 1TB HDD from Western Digital, the My Book... which are on-sale this week at BestBuy for $109.

2. To format the HDD, you can do as Lou mentions in the Media Manager and also when you go to perform the actual Bogart HD-Backup (using the Bogart HD-Backup add-on software) this will also format the drive if it needs it - but it must not already be formatted)

When connecting an external HDD to a Casablanca (either Smart Edit or Bogart) see this public page on my website for the list of functions/features available, with links to the tutorials available for each operation: http://www.casablancaexpert.com/articles/HDD

Thanks for all the replies. When I get back to the office I will make sure the drive is formated correctly.

I reformated the Seagate FreeAgent 1.5 TB Drive to NTFS. It still will not backup the S-4000. I tried to just backup the StoryBoard and I get the message "Backup Failed" Are there USB Drives that Bogart is not compatable with?

Well to say it more clearly, it doesn't matter what you like to do with your ext. harddrive
it always has to be formatted in FAT32 and not NTFS.
Only with FAT32 formatted drives you will succeed doing a storyboard saving or HD-Backup.
If a drive is formatted in NTFS you have to reformat to FAT32.
If a new drive is nonformatted and you try a HD-Backup only then the HD-Backup program
will format your drive to FAT32 format.
