I was able to delete the partition and when I tried to do a backup on my Bogart it asked if I wanted the drive to be formated and it did. Backup in process. Thanks all for your help. :D

NOT SO....A NTFS formated drive will be formatted in BOGART via a prompt to some type of proprietary format.

Here is a secret:

True....the HD will no longer be recognized by a PC. Tim actually has a webpage that shows you how to re-format BACK to FAT 32

BUT: The new formatted drive by BOGART has more space because the partition is gone and works better with BOGART.

I learned the hard way by initially making the drive NTFS awhile back.....I now format all my drives in my PC to NTFS and let BOGART re-format the drive which results in better performance and more space as well.

HansJoachimKoenig wrote:Well to say it more clearly, it doesn't matter what you like to do with your ext. harddrive
it always has to be formatted in FAT32 and not NTFS.
Only with FAT32 formatted drives you will succeed doing a storyboard saving or HD-Backup.
If a drive is formatted in NTFS you have to reformat to FAT32.
If a new drive is nonformatted and you try a HD-Backup only then the HD-Backup program
will format your drive to FAT32 format.

Agreed, if you try to use a NTFS formatted drive it will ask you if you want to format it.

Say yes and it will format the drive to FAT32.

OK,OK, if it is the way you say!

I only have used nonformatted 1TB harddrives and was asked if I want
to format it, so I never realised it would even reformat a NTFS drive.
But now I know.
So it's good we have talked about the subject again.

Hi Lou & Tim,

I have to correct my before said:
All my 1TB drives were formatted to FAT32 on PC.
These drives are all excepted by S4KP for saving of storyboard, HD-Backup or Archives.
I can see all the different data when hooked up to PC.
Lou, you don't see any data on PC when you have formatted in S4KP?
What about recognition of these "Special" formatted drives in WD-TV?

Correct...after being formatted via the S4000/4100, the external drive is not recognized or appears in the COMPUTER menu at all.

WD-TV...never tried because I use a flash drive. Interesting.

When the drive is not recognized in the PC, the drive probably is formatted in Ext.3 format, which is a Linux based format.
Special drivers are required to "see" it in the PC then.
Ext.3 also does not have any limits regarding the max. file size by the way.

Have a good sunday...

Makes sense.....great tip. For instance UBANTU 9.0 will use Ext4. I think window-based drivers allow to read EX3 but can not transfer files to same.

Hi Lou,

just one more question:
If any drive is formatted in HD-Backup(EX3) it only can be used exclusively for HD-Backups?
There is no succeed if you would try making a storyboard saving on same harddrive?
Because storyboard saving needs FAT32?
Thus mixed savings are not possible on same drive.
