Microphone/mixer

Post by newkazoo »

I have been using the Casablanca editing system AVIO DVD for
3-4 years now and going to buy a good microphone.
Any body who maybe does frequent narration have any suggestions what works best in a microphone
and a mixer.

In my Casablanca 'Lab' I use a Behringer MX802 Mixer with a couple of different mics for recording my webinars and Casablanca Expert tutorial DVDs. The most commonly used mic is my Voice Technologies VT500 (wired lavalier).

Behringer also has a smaller model - the 502 - but for a little more $ you get more inputs. They each provide both XLR and 1/4 Phone inputs and I run my Casablanca line level out out into the CD/Tape (RCA-Phono) inputs for control. There is a headphone jack and these little units are clean and well reviewed. A lot of options for a mixer that can be purchased for under $60!

For anyone interested in more about how I have this mixer set-up, I have added an article to my Casablanca Expert blog which you can read here:Audio set-up in the Casablanca Expert Lab

I have senheiser, audio voice, tascam, audio technica and one I can't ID but the one I use the most is a Radioshack $89 mike it has worked well for years. I use a mackie 1202 mixer. It wasn't cheap but it works well gives me a lot of control. I also have a Radio Shack 5 channel mixer. It dosen't have near the control but it works. Hope this helps. Bob...

Newkazoo,

I have two questions:

1) In keeping with the friendly and helpful spirit of the forum, could you give us your first name?

2) What equipment are you looking to purchase and what is your budget? The Avio does not have a microphone level input so you will need to get a line level signal by using a mixer or by running the mic into a camcorder and then taking the audio out and going into the RCA jacks of your editor.
