I have taken the suggestions from a recent Monday Meeting of the Minds (Casablanca Coffee Klatch) and created a wish list / survey that will allow us Casablanca owners to share our wishes with the management at MacroSystem.
As indicated on the survey page. the results will be passed on to MacroSystem DE and made available to their international distributors (MSUS, Dalco UK, etc.).
You will find this short survey / questionnaire here: https://app.icontact.com/icp/sub/survey ... cid=527015

Chet

Re: Casablanca Wish List / Suggestion 'box'
Thanks for the survey, Chet. I was able to voice a frustration about my Ren not being able to import video thru the USB port. Firewire is not available on the newer cameras, only USB, as they want to make the camera a drive on a PC. Sooo, I am wondering how possible it will be to make the USB port a channel of input in the Renomee? I hear its possible in Bogart.

Re: Casablanca Wish List / Suggestion 'box'
You are welcome Jim -- not speaking as a representative of the company... but the Renommee was built (using the VX Works platform that all the Casablanca II series were built on) to work with DV (and analog video). The AVCHD/USB camcorders were not available at that time so it was not engineered to function with those files.
The move to the new editors (on the Linux platform) opened up new options for working with a variety of file formats beyond the DV/Analog that we had before. I don't know for sure what the challenge is to retrofit a VX Works unit to read/work with the new USB delivered files but my guess is that it is quite a bit of engineering, and I would hesitate to think the parent company has the development hours to perform that task.
Anyway - my 2-cents...
Regards,
Chet

You are welcome Jim -- (by the way, I will keep the survey active/live until January 4, 2010 and then share the results)
In response to your question about your Renommee: not speaking as a representative of the company but as a colleague with some info...

Re: Casablanca Wish List / Suggestion 'box'
As far as I know, VXWorks did not support USB 2.0 and it did not support AVCHD decoding.
So I am afraid that AVCHD import will not be possible with the Smart Edit OS.
And as far as I know, Smart Edit 9 will be the last Smart Edit version.
And, no, I am also not speaking as a representative of the company

That would totally surprise me.And as far as I know, Smart Edit 9 will be the last Smart Edit version.
There is literally a ton of machines out there that operate on Smart Edit and the Company makes more money selling an Operating System software than any other type of software due to the fact that far more people opt to buy the next new Operating System version than the next "new wacky cartoon title effects" software.
I would think from a business standpoint it would make solid sense to continue to bring out "new and improved" Smart Edit versions annually for the built in income/profit such generates.
That said, there are limitations that the Vxworks machines are not likely to overcome regarding such as USB2 and AVCHD options.
