presitge hard drive sled

Post by prescable »

I switch between hard drive sleds. I plugged one in and the prestige did not boot to the main menu. Any help?

Hello,

If you switch back to another sled, does it start up alright? If that's the case, it probably is a problem within that reluctant sled and or it's connections to either the hard drive itself or the editor. Check out the following thoughts

There could be one or more of several problems.
The sled may have not seated properly to make contact inside the machine.
The hard drive in the sled may have the jumpers set in the wrong position ie, master, slave, cable select etc.
The hard drive in the sled may be heading south and not starting up.
The hard drive in the sled may not be making contact with connections inside the sled.

Let us know what you find out. That's the way we all learn more from each other.

And, Oh yes, welcome to the forum. We have been known as one the friendliest places on the web. We hope you find it so, and return often. We like to use our real name and towns so we can truly get to know everyone better. If you fill in your information in the user control panel and set it up to show your name and town and state you don't have to type it in each time you post and it makes it a lot easier for everyone. Check out the tag lines at the bottom of my post here to you.

If you regularly switch hard drives in a sled (i.e one sled several drives) the short IDE cable eventually breaks throught being flexed. Also a lead can become detached from the power plug. We have had the odd sled fail fo no obvious reason. Check by swapping hard drives.

Please excuse the obvious, but you do shut down the Casablanca editor before changing hard drives? I have accidently removed a hard drive while it was up and running and the new drive does not boot.

Thanks for the tips. When I boot the presitige I get the prestige logo and the hour glass on the tv monitor and then all goes gray. I would like to edit my username to be more friendly, but could not figure out how...

Hello,

Go to the top left hand corner of this page and click on user control panel then a new page opens up and you click on
"Profile" then click on "edit signature" there you type in your real name, your town and state and any other information that you want to have appear in your tag line automatically each time you post a message here.

You can look at the tag line at the bottom of my message here to see what you might want to include, like maybe your e-mail address or website etc. or any interesting thing that tells us about you. This is up to you. Many are afraid to include their e-mail but that is a personal choice.

Adding what camcorder and which Cassie model and what software Operating system you are using will help all of us give you better answers for what you are working with......rather than us guessing at what the correct answers will be if we don't know what you are using.

P.S. because you are in nearby Wisconsin you might be interested in receiving information about the yearly Casablanca User's Convention called the "March Get Together" If you will send me a private e-mail at jimmeekersr@myway.com I'll send you some free info. It's march 8th-11th just down river in Davenport Iowa.

Unfortunately, yes - you should always power down prior to swapping internal Hard Drives. I do not know if that renders permanent damage or simply discombubulates your hard drive which requires reformatting.

I advise folks to power down, wait a few more seconds to ensure the drive is no longer spinning prior to removing/swapping drives.

Well Chet, so far it hasn't caused any problems other than requiring a shut down and reboot. I try to be careful about doing that but once in a while I have a senior moment and forget.

To all who responded to my cry for help-THANKS. After leaving the unit off and unplugged for several days, I was able to reinstall OS and get the machine working.
Thanks for the help!
