Re: Transfer footage
Yes and yes. Connect the two machines while they are both OFF. I would then turn on the sending machine first and the receiving machine second.

Re: Transfer footage
Morning Howard
As Craig says, you can safely transfer either way, I do it all the time, the process is the same both ways. I have a fire wire cable permanently connected between my two units.
From the sending machine (presumably the Avio in your case) with the project you require selected, go to the “Finish” window, set the “Record to VCR” to which ever output you require (presumably DV) and when you have your Renommee ready, just click the play button. If you do not want to transfer all of the story board, you can click on "Choose Range" and set the in and out as required.
Setting up your Remommee. First select the Project you wish to transfer to, go into “Video Settings” from the main menu, Select the appropriate “Input” (e.g. DV) go into the “Record” screen and after the “Play” button has been clicked on your Avio, click the red “Record” button in your record window.
It takes a second or so from clicking the play button to being able to click the record button, therefore if you need the very start of the story board, place a few seconds of black or colour bars at the start of your export story board.
Once you have clicked the play button on the Avio, your Renommee just sees this as an input, as if from a Cam.
