Same Day Edit..hummm

Ok, now (2009-2010) the market for weddings continues to change, now all brides want the SAME DAY EDIT
this is very tense and STRESS..

My question is,the LIBERTY would do the job for SAME DAY EDIT?..

As no one from MSUS ever interacts on the BB any more I guess all you are going to get is user responses.

I never owned a Liberty, but I looked into doing so when they first came out.

They are old technology, if I remember correctly, they would be faster than a Prestige, but not up to a Solitaire or Renommee level.

As they are old technology you would be limited to Smart Edit and that OS is not exactly HD friendly time wise.

In my opinion, I don't think you could input and even assemble edit HD footage with a Liberty in the time constraints of an SDE, let alone do any other editing such as adding any IP Effects, etc.

If you downconverted in the cam to SD footage into the Liberty, that would certainly be do-able.

I think Tim was putting it mildly for you... If you are used to the processing speed of a RENO + and an S-4000, there's no way you wouldn't simply committ hari kari trying to edit on an old Liberty, even if you down-converted first.

The bigger question I have is... What market are you in? Are you saying you're supposed to shoot, edit, mix, render and burn the SAME DAY!? Are you on staff for BRIDEZILLAS?

The worst I've ever gotten was a request for an unedited playback of the ceremony that people could watch during the reception. I politely told them I don't do that and assured them that a quality production would require editing at my home studio. They agreed and we all ended up happy.

If you're going to perform that kind of service you might have to set up in the parking lot in a van with a generator to power your S-4000!

Tim thanks for your coments,yes maybe if I DOW CONVERT,could be possible,but this
will be a TIME CONSUMING. so maybe MS in the not so far feature should make
a better LIBERTY option to compete in this area...

The Liberty is no longer manufactured, you can find some after market units (if you are _really_ interested, contact me off-list as I know one MSUS Reseller who has a source). As Tim pointed out, the Liberty remains a Smart Edit unit, and even then the highest OS available was/is Smart Edit 7. Due to a manufacturing change by Toshiba (the laptop host of the Liberty) MS DE moved onto a different unit called the T-3000 which never made it to North America (http://www.macrosystem.de/e/t3000_start.html).

The Liberty accepts only DV (you'd need to use an A>D Converter to pull in any analog footage) and I don't think I would try editing HDV on the unit (due to the slower work-flow in Smart Edit HD editing).

I would think it a sunny day for many if Macrosystem development can create and release a stable version of the Bogart OS on a (appropriately powerful) Windows Laptop or desktop computer. I would think that would be attractive to many.

Yes that would be attractive to me. Either that or get to the point where our editors will share information with windows. Such as pictures, music and graphics. It is so time consuming to burn every thing on a disc and load it on the Cassie. Bob...

I don't own a Liberty but going to same day edit sounds very stress full.Here in Australia people are surprized when I say I have there video back with in 3 weeks and find that very fast others may take months so I like it like that.
I had a request for the ceremony to be edited for viewing at the reception but I said I could not do it and to be honest witch guest want to see the ceremony again on the reception they all are bored sitting through it live but if you film with one camera you could just play it from the tape I suppose but that is not fully edited and delivered.

As Robert said editing takes time it is like baking a cake present it without any decorations just staight out of the oven cool it down and box it.
Just a 20 mins ceremony with 3 camera's for me takes about 2hours to edit and that doesn't include loading just fine tuning all the 180 cutaway shots.
Do you film with multiple cameras or just one?
I don't even have the time to scratch my ...... during the day let alone sit down and start editing.
I think same day editing is a lazy videographers job as they just wack it in put a song behind it and burn it- you can't do anything else I would say.
Just autherizing 2 hours of footage in DV takes 3 hours don't realy know how long it takes in HDV but I would say a lot longer.
I work on my own and like it that way but maybe if you have an extra pair of hands it might work and you be in one location
but it would be still very stressfull just thinking about it.

But I guess if the other is offering it you might have to go with it even when it cost your health and loose sleep over it.
The bright side is you got the rest of the week off because you delivered the DVD so that job is done.

I think a SDE is unrealistic with the system we use & I agree with Jeanton who wants to see what they just saw a few hours ago ?
What I have started offering though and IS realistic is a wedding day recap to be posted on the couples Facebook wall within 2 to 5 days
of their wedding.
So while on their honeymoon they can share this with friends and family.

The SDE should be regarded from the point of view of my market, as something different and at the same time a good way to advertising my product.

Today this product in the case of my competitors (using fcp and vegas), has positioned itself in a surprising way.

They use the latest DSLR from canon for SDE and this helps a lot when
we talk about facilities at the time of editing.

Maybe the new owners of MS should take a new and improved to the LIBERTY..

Very nice job. I like it I don't do weddings much any more but I use to provide a hi-lite like that and it was well recieved. I shoot things that go a bit faster, Stock cars. I used to show my raw video after the races and that seemed to generate a lot of sales, an arguments. I quit doing it cause I got tired of getting home at 3 or 4 in the morning. Bob...
