The new US Macrosystem VP gave an email address for suggestions. suggestions@macrosystem.us
He stated in his presentation at the MGT last week that Macrosystem urged us as customers to use this email address often.
You can watch his remarks on Chet's Casablanca Expert web site as a member. I encourage all who have not joined the Casablanca Expert web site to do so. A wealth of information is available.

If you are using the new S-2000 or S-4100 models then SDE's can be very fast and effeciant. As already mentioned, all you really need to do is pre-create your intro graphic, select the music beds, create the ending graphics, then upload the footage and start editing. If you are using solid state cameras like I have (Sony EX1) then you can even import the footage faster than real time via the direct import feature under the video record window and connecting either your cam or an external card reader. This feature is expected to work even better in the upcoming Bogart 3. So I think our systems are very well equipped to handle SDE's. I amd getting ready to offer this to my clients.

Hey Joel! I agree 100% our editor would do perfectly. only thing is that I feel very uncomfortable carrying a S-4000 or whatever MS edit system that was used for SDE, plus a monitor.
It would be better an update from LIBERTY (I would buy it) with Bogart or other new laptop, (most modern and fastest), to facilitate the work of SDE.
In my market same day edit cost between US$ 700 to US$ 1,200 and is EXTRA,50 % of the brides are ready to PAY IT..
Since we all know that the economy hit in MS, is time to no more promises and lift the spirits of this great product..

Re: Same Day Edit..hummm
If MS wants to increase its customer base, I am sure they would have to consider a software package that works on a PC or laptop. Editors who do same day edits, the hobbyist who is on vacation, and especially the new YOUNG generation- would consider such an editing appliance
However, support could be an issue because if a problem is hardware related on a non-proprietary MS appliance, it will be the users responsibility to find that specific hardware problem via the computer's manufacturer.

Lou,
Yes, but that is true to EVERY software program used on a PC.
It is one of the reasons I was initially drawn to MSUS as all you ever got from the PC software people was it was a hardware or Windows problem, talk to them and visa versa.
MSUS had a good thing going with their proprietary, advantageously priced hardware/software combination in the old days.
They have lost that price advantage as PCs have vastly improved in power and reliability and software costs have plummeted and the pricing advantage has switched drastically over to the PC.
The only obvious advantage MSUS can tout today to compete is GUI simplicity for learning curve and basic editing.
So the only way to truly compete here is the maxim, if you can't beat 'em, join 'em.
What good is a proprietary system who's main advantage to the company is that it cannot be illegally replicated if no one is buying the product?
They should adapt and create a software only version for the PC.
Many of us would automatically purchase it for the laptop of our choice for use in such as SDE and other mobile preferred situations.

My mom always told me that happiness was the key to life.
At school they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up.
I said “happy" and they told me I didn’t understand the question.
I told them they didn’t understand life.

I said on Thursday exactly the same as Tim said.
Does anyone write this to suggestions@macrosystem.us
I don't think I have the right to write to them as they are not my distibutor but I would like to see it as well.

Jeanton,
John actually preceeded you posting on this subject, but it isn't like this is a new thought that the three of us just thought up.
John has been a proponent of it for years. I have always sided with the practical point that the Company was unlikely to entertain the loss of proprietary control expanding to a PC software based offering would entail while their business model was enjoying continued success.
My main point in this latest post was that the business model is obviously no longer working in the environment it competes in.
They can maintain the current practice and slowly (or perhaps not so slowly) fade out of business or break out of the mold and try something new.
New does not guarantee success, but I believe not trying something new will guarantee failure.

Re: Same Day Edit..hummm
What MacroSystem has over-looked the past few years as its business approach was to just focus on catering to the current user base, was for a way to create growth and increase revenues by means of targeting new users. I've strongly disagreed with that philosophy of only targeting our current base, as I don't think it takes a rocket scientist to realize such an approach will clearly lead to an end down the road; as current users will eventually retire from doing video, move on to other things, etc. Also, let's be up-front here, with their current philosophy of NOT focusing on new business and growth, I'd bet the average age of a Cassie user hovers in the 45-65 range. Macro is completely missing the younger crowd who is moving into video and who are the biggest spenders with disposable income. Not to stereotype, but I know many who are older who have fixed incomes and such; so, in my opinion, again, perhaps not the best approach these days to figure on just targeting our current user base.
The only real answer is for MacroSystem to open up a bit and appeal to the younger crowd; which I think can be done, BUT only by releasing their software for one to load on their own computer. Certainly in the older days of 1997, yes, compatibility and other such headaches were an issue; thus, the original Cassie concept was well-timed. However, since so much of that has changed, such issues are no longer an area of concern. Thus, the forward thinking and long-term approach of allowing folks to buy the software themselves is the only way this company is going to be able to be attractive to new and younger users.
MacroSystem can release whatever "new" units they want (an S-5000, an S-7000 Plus, etc.), but it doesn't mean a thing to new users and those who don't want to be forced into buying another editing machine when they already have a notebook, desktop, etc. already in their possession; and often such a device that is already more powerful (in terms of processing power, etc.) than what MacroSystem can keep up with.
The concept of the Liberty notebook was good, but the price was absurd, especially if one factored in the cost to re-buy add-on software – even at their 40% off pricing, the whole thing was still insanely expensive and just ill-conceived from a planning and marketing standpoint.
Anyway, bottom line, this company can no longer do business the same old way like it use to; time for a change, it’s now 2010, so the philosophies of 1997 should likely be put to rest.
