I must give credit where credit is due. ARABESK makes OUTSTANDING HD DVD's. The clarity is so close to the original. The fact that we can use regular DVD-R's as HD (AVCHD) is a money saver for short projects. Hopefully, we can get a HD MENU system in the next major UPDGRADE.

Do these disks look as good as the same AVCHD video burned on a Blu Ray? Since I found BR disks for under five bucks, I tried them with great success on my first try with my new S 4100!! I'm very pleased !!

This seems like more a nightmare than the early stages of DVD compatibility.

Will you be expected to provide a client with a listing of brands and model numbers that do and don't work? And, inform some that after 30 min., it may be normal for their disc to stutter and freeze up? Technology, the mfg love pushing the stuff to increase revenues, but they aren't on the receiving end of having to explain things to clients.

Yes...exactly the same albeit only about 27 minutes....depending on the amount of motion in the video. I just completed another train layout video for a wealthy client. I gave him a AVCHD DVD-R disc. I also advised him to get a PlayStation 3. That is the ONLY Blu-ray player I would recommend because it plays almost every format. One must be careful when purchasing a Blu-ray player that touts AVCHD. They do not always work. For those in the special event market, this can present a problem.

We actually need or could use a "STICKY" on the forum relating to the the increasing number of players that are compatible with ARABESK HD.

Just FYI, the OPPO BD83 has replaced the PS3 as the best Blu Ray player available right now in the home video world. And it plays Blu Ray disks burned on my S4100. In fact, a reviewer caught Lexicon actually putting a BD83 inside of their new $ 3000.00 blu ray player - HA !!

I'm using one with a top of the line SIM2 Lumis Host projector on a 106" wide screen and the Blu Rays burned with Arabesk look great even at that size !!!
Pros
Plays all disc formats
Inexpensive
Superb video quality
Embarrasses high end players

In a system with HDMI connections, the OPPO BDP-83 is an extremely desirable player to have because it's a fantastic Blu-ray player with a beautiful picture and speedy operation. Standard DVD processing is top notch as well and the player features high quality audio output for all the latest HI Def sound codecs as well as additional media types such as DVD-Audio and SACD in both bitstream and PCM output. Because the BDP-83's component video connections don't take advantage of the ABT2010 processor, the performance is not near as good and doesn't get quite the recommendation for systems limited to analog video connections. However, with the BDP-83's HDMI capabilities, its performance on the bench, the exceptional build quality, their continued support to their product line, and the inclusion of features such as BD-Live and additional media playback, OPPO has an out-of-the-ballpark grand slam home run. Highly Recommended.

Personally, I consider the OPPO BDP-83 to be the best standalone Blu-ray player I've yet used. OPPO Digital's first Blu-ray model lives up to the company's reputation for quality. I have been testing the BDP-83 for several weeks, and plan to make it the new reference player in my home theater system.

I remember going though the exact same thing with my Avio and dvd's. Toshiba dvd players wouldn't work, but Panasonics would. Same crap, different day.

The OPPO is about 200 dollars more PLUS No NETFLIX capability like PS3. I like to stream my HD movies using PS3. However, the OPPO is top-rated!

FYI - the Sony BDP BX1 will not play Blu Rays burned on my S 4100. For the record, the specs for this Costco version of the Sony BD 350 doesn't mention anything about playing AVCHD disks.
