Yes, tape may be the thing to go for archiving finished projects.
But how do you save your work when you are in the middle of the editing process?
In my opinion there is no other choice then using the HD-Backup software which saves all the transitions, the audio mix and just everything.
But you have to save the projects onto two different external hard drives.
In my case I am sure this all could have been avoided if the backup software would have performed a verify/read-process after saving the projects. The drive obviously had physically defective blocks and this could have been detected somehow during saving.
Anyway, now it is time to start all over again.

Hi Volker,
sorry to hear of the outcome of this "Nightmare".
Hearing of your mishaps I also will alter my saving strategy,
although as said before never had any trouble using HD-Backup.
I always only save from single projects to HD-Backup.
Saving time and restore time is relaxing shorter than dealing with
multiple projects.
Since HDs are not very expensive anymore I will in future do savings
on 2 different ext. HDs using HD-Backup.
All my finished projects are currently saved doing my triple method.
In "Finish" I render and save to HDV tape.
In Arabesk I render and burn a AVCHD disk.
In HD-Backup I save the "single" project.
The renderings in "Finish" and "Arabesk" are saved with HD-Backup.
So anytime I want I may either instantly do another playout to HDV tape or
burn another AVCHD disk.
AVCHD disks can be played via MediaManager in excellent HD quality.
Since I don't have a Blu-ray player yet I hook up via a seperate HDMI cable
my big living room TV.
Audio is fed via the HQ RCA audio outputs to a separate audio devive
and loudspeakers.

Volker,
Have you tried accessing the problem Back up using Store and Share?
If you can access it in that manner you could at least take edited work out to tape.

Tim, no I haven't. I am not even sure if I have a code for Store'n'Share.
So you think, it may work to connect an HD backup drive and use it as or like a Store'n'Share drive?
Am I getting you right?
Right now I am loading in the footage again. Very time consuming.

Hi Volker,
Sorry to hear about your woes.
You are 'lucky' to have the footage to re-load. Other users with 'card' cameras might have deleted the card by now, for re-use, and so would have nothing - it put's tape based cameras (HD or not) into perspective. Tape is still a good medium and could sit on the shelf for ages waiting to be re-loaded if necessary - isn't hindsight a wonderful thing. I currently back-up HD material from my little card camera to an external hard drive using the Project back-up method and to a re-writable Blu Ray disk.
As for your current stored back-up, corrupt or otherwise, I don't believe that Store 'n' Share will even see it. When you launch the program it looks, not surprisingly, for Store 'n' Share files and not 'other' video ones. I have an external drives here with Bogart HD Back-up's on it and a Store 'n' Share drive. I can't even load a full HDD back-up backed up from the main drive onto the Store 'n' share one - although you can use Project back-ups (as long as they are on another drive . . . ).

Is Bogart 3.1 the current relased version over in PAL land?

Yes, Tim with alot of bugs and faults in it and they haven't done anything about it to fix them for the last 4 months. Is Bogart 3.1 the current relased version over in PAL land?
Maybe if or when they release it for NTSC they sell you guys a better version.
For that kinda money you would a better piece of software that if bug free and better than 2.4.

Re: Just lost all my Bogart projects.Backup can not be restored!
Release date of Bogart 3.1 PAL was Feb 1, 2010.
So to be correct the time without any update would be almost "3 months" by now.
As I have heard from beta testers there will be an update coming in some days.
OK, back to HD-Backup problems.
Hearing about Volker's problems I yesterday checked all my HD-Backups if useful
for doing a restore.
This check was completed in 2 hours since I always only do HD-Backups of "Single Projects"
which don't exceed the 25 GB mark.
There are 19 Backups of 2009 and 2010.
4 of the backups can't be restored, 3--2009, 1---2010.
The "no good" restores do start as normal, progress bar, restore time,
but after the progress bar has moved for some time it stops and will return
to restore menu without reporting of failure.
So for me it's not a big loss if a single project can't be restored anymore since I also
saved on HDV tape and AVCHD disk.
Don't know the reason, but I don't think it has to do with bad sectors of
ext. hd, since the 1 TB was brand new and completely formatted with FAT32
on PC.
I think it has to do with a corruption in the HD-Backup process.
When I have to do HD-Backups again next time I will backup to 2 different ext. HDs
Then try a restore from both HDs, the successful one will stay.
Of course I first save to HDV tape and AVCHD disk before doing the HD-Backup step.
