Does anyone know how to import video from CF cards recorded with SONY Z5 's memory unit HVR-MRC1K into S-4100? I plan to buy this camera since I have an back-up right there on the tape!! CF cards footages I can use for wory-free transfer without dropouts (if any on the tape). I am scared to use cameras with cards only: can u imagine to loose wedding video footages only because u discharged the card...
I will appretiate any advice! Thanks.

I use a card reader with the CF card as the new Units will IMPORT directly from a card reader via the USB port. However, since you own the Renomee you will use firewire. I know that DV is read directly via firewire to my S4000PR as the MC UNIT itself is recognized as an external deck. I can only assume that HDV via FIREWIRE can be read but I never tried it in a Gen 2 unit.

WOW!! Big difference. Yes...the CF cards work right from the BOGART side!! The files are .m2t in HD. The faster your card the faster the download. SO, if one has a 300X card, I will ASSUME the download speed is faster than the 133X cards on the market now that I had purchased in the past.
If you shoot in RAW DV mode in the unit, you can import via firewire into a DV project . You also have a choice of .AVI which SHOULD read in Media Manager.
NOTE: It is my understanding that the new BOGART 3.2 will read many formats from the BOGART side rather than Media Manager.
Anyway, I really enjoy my MRC unit as I have the ability to use TAPE and SOLID STATE at the same time.
NOTE: With the Z-5, just set up the menu to SYNCHRO in the unit. Using the Z-7 and HVR 270U (my new camera) just use the camera menu. In other cameras such as the V1U...use follow. BTW: The unit worked with my Canon XH-A1S as I could place the Canon menu on SYNCHRO.
Lastly, don't pause and record via the camera record button very fast. Allow a time for the card to communicate with the buffer.
Notice the unit on the side of my camera:

Thank you Lou,
Yes, tape is still the best backup solution out there. Also, when I am thinking that professional HD cameras with the price tag of $80,000.00 and more still use tape as a record medium, why can't I not shoot and have two mediums at once: tape and cf card. Can,t believe it!!! With cf cards I"ll import into editor with no drop outs, and tape simply store on the shelf. Reuse cf card again, and if I need footage again - "tape here I coming"
I love my job!

A VERY IMPORTANT POINT: DO NOT format your CF cards in your computer. Use the unit's menu to FORMAT. Most people have better luck with 16GB cards.
