Downloading photos

Post by trobertson »

I have been downloading photos into my Kron plus with photo studio 2. I am using memory sticks with the 6 in 1 card reader. They are accepeted just fine into the folder and this can be open and closed for preview but when i attempt to create a scene and add them to a project, my Kron plus freezes up and i end up losing all of my projects because I have to do a total install to get the machine back up and running again. What is causing the freeze up ??
At this point, I am ready to bag it all and give up. . . any help would be appreciated.

Seeing these stories of one machine or another locked up when what should be a routine procedure was followed, I load in pics with disc. I might be able to use a special flash card, but I don't want the problems I have been reading about in here, so I just play it safe and load in with a disc. Much safer this way.

I’m not sure if this type failure has been posted before, so I’m only guessing here, but I would suspect a corrupt jpg photo might be the problem. Also some memory sticks do not work with the MS machines, Sandisk for instance is not recognised. However, in the latter case the photos are usually just not recognised.

If you have used the stick previously, without problem, I would try removing all the photos from stick and reloading them again. Best try this before loading any new projects, just in case you have to perform another re-install.

Jim, trobertson’s issue is with a memory stick, not a card reader. However, I usually transfer with a flash card and have so far never had a problem.

Again I have used both memory sticks and CD’s, again without problems, other than jpg’s of insufficient size or incorrect file reference (i.e. it will not recognise any format other than *jpg, not even JEPG.).

We have found that when having problems using USB sticks (or USB drives in the case of Bogart machines), it is often due to there being some small program/partition already loaded on the device. This is usually some kind of back up program. Casablanca seems to prefer unadulterated storage devices.

It should also be rememberd that on SmartEdit machines, card reader software is required to read USB sticks, (not required for Bogart).

There is still another method importing photos to the scene bin.
Any USB-Flash-Drive containing photos can be imported via "Photo Transfer" :D
I use only this method for years now having no problems.
Even images that have been pre-processed on PC are imported.
Also export of images from scene bin to USB-Drive is possible using "Photo Transfer" ;)
I use these images to do DVD covers on PC.

Even when the USB-Flash-Drive is containing additional other data
import and export is successful, no disturbance of import/export process as Martyn stated above.

If I may add, USE single monitor mode for Photo Transfer in NTSC land. I am making some nice HDV exports this way.

Thanks to all of you that responded to my problem. I did have success with a flash drive and so far no more crashes. Unless this does not work in the future, I will continue to use the flash drive and just put the card reader away for now.
