Re: Bogart 3.2c Pal
I will jump in here. Absolutely no offense taken by Volker's opinion. Opinions are good.
Personally, I like 2-monitor mode as I want to keep my preview side free of distractions such as icons. Many of us to prefer 2-monitor modes. It is just a matter of what one is accustomed to using. Hopefully, 2-monitor issues will be addressed.
I know CHET is putting together which softwares are effected by 2 vs single monitor modes.

Re: Bogart 3.2c Pal
Hello Everyone,
I can't imagine having to edit with all the interface information spread out over my video images. It would be way too much of a hassle to use a single monitor when up against a deadline for a customer. I'll use the DVI and VGA set up as long as it works. After all if we are trying to make a living with this thing, it needs to work as easily and quickly as possible. That's why I bought the Cassie in the first place.
The developers need to understand that the culture for video editing in the US is totally different than it is in Germany. So if the units will operate in both single and dual monitor modes as advertised, both sides of the pond will be happy.

Hi Jim,
although I'm on the Germany side of the pond you may have noticed I'm also a 2-Monitor user
as many more here in Germany.
In my opinion it has also to do with having a separate editing work space or not.
Maybe even thinking it's comfort.
So it isn't really a "which_side_of_the_pond" thing.
Wifes don't like a VGA screen side by side to the big living room TV.

Re: Bogart 3.2c Pal
Hi ,
just to return to the initial 3.2c PAL version here some notes:
In a previous post I reported that Installation of 3.2a/3.2c PAL was cancelled in S-4000Pro.
I downloaded and burned a new ISO-Disk and now update/installation worked successfully.

Re: Bogart 3.2c Pal
Hello again everyone,
Hey..... it is fun to have different opinions and find out why these opinions exist. There are certainly good reasons behind all of them.
My point was that I have been told by Jörg Sprave in person, that there is no professional wedding videography business in Germany like we have here in the US. So there is a different video editing culture and therefore a different way of using the equipment and looking at how comfortable it is to use various editing set ups.
Another point that I was told in a personal conversation with Jörg when I asked him why the developers built the Smart Rendering in the background.....to render the last item added first and the first item added last. This way of doing it could not be understood by anyone here in the US.
US wedding videographers didn't like it because each time you added something new, it stopped the rendering process and started it all over again with the latest thing added, thereby making the rendering process take longer and it was never done in the order that things were added. Jörg didn't see that this was a problem at all until we registered a huge protest over a two year period and they finally changed it to give us a choice of either First in first out or first in last out.
I will quarantee that all US wedding videographers have theirs set so the First in will be first rendered and not the other way around. When your income for your family depends on not wasting time with your editing, having this choice did save us time and effort.
So that's just one more thing that we look at from a different perspective on this side of the pond. I really do like to know what other folks think and why they have certain views that seem different. With this friendly forum we can therefore get to know everyone better and understand their point of view. That is the friendly part of this Forum.

Re: Bogart 3.2c Pal
In the UK we seem to be halfway house. We have quite a large number of pro/semi-pro users but also many hobbyist users. I can see the point of using a single larger HD monitor as there is more and clearer information available at the higher res setting. Also, as previously mentioned, many users do not have the advantage of a studio room or have limited space, so sharing the family TV or maybe a bedroom TV is a necessity.
We must remember that forum users tend to be the enthusiast/pro/semi-pro users (usually the most vociferous ), and that probably the majority of Casablanca owners are not in this category. What we are noticing is that a system developed for simplicity is now becoming quite complex, especially for the more senior users. Ms are in the difficult position of trying to satisfy the advanced users demands for the latest tech developments, and to provide simple but high quality editing for the hobbyists, many of whom are loyal Casablanca users from the early days. Perhaps there is room for a "GO" button or set up wizard similar to the option found in Arabesk 4.
We too suffer the frustrations of developers logic and usually put it down to developers not being users. However, you would presume beta testers are users and expect these anomalies would be picked up in beta testing....if their comments are listened to.

Re: Bogart 3.2c Pal
I also wondered why there are 2 ways to do smart editing.
I always let first render first added, it's logical for me.
Mr Sprave's answer is not "Master's voice" since I doubt he
ever interviewed any users which way they like or want to do it.

Re: Bogart 3.2c Pal
I find it strange that when MSDE change something in the way the O/S operates the reason given is always "It's what our users asked for" I've never been asked and the one alteration that sticks in my mind goes back to SE v3.1 when MS changed the ability just to capture footage as was, to only capture if footage was perfect with no breaks.
To me the purpose of editing footage is to take the bad bits out but that decision was taken away.

Re: Bogart 3.2c Pal
Charles, I remember that we (the former MS support team) spoke to many folks who ran into trouble during editing just because there were corrupt frames on the drive that had not been sorted out automatically like it is done today.
I even remember the old Cassie 1 days when you got error messages with a long number telling you that something went wrong during editing. We had a table for translating the codes. Most of the codes we got reported from customers were related to corrupt frames and problems caused by those frames.
But when I captured the last 2 DV tapes the other day with Bogart 3, it just deleted some frames right in the middle of my footage - not telling me anything about it - no warning, no nothing. Later when I played back the captured clips from the hard drive, passages were missing in the middle of the sequences. THAT was a pain in the xxx...
Just my 2 (or 3) cents
Volker, still editing with a 1-monitor setup ...
