Re: Bogart 3.2c Pal
Volker, this is an area where i think we agree to disagree, back in the days of the classic i would get some dross to edit and i still do get some dross to edit with the S4000 and i never had any problems until MS changed the way cassie captured footage.
What is strange is that users of PC video software i include Vegas V3 would capture anything you fed it with no problem.
You get your average camcorder tape and you have to baby sit it as it's imported, not right

Re: Bogart 3.2c Pal
Oh, I heard from several PC users that they were facing all kinds of problems such as audio/video going out of synch after capturing when there were dropouts on the tape and stuff...
But on the other hand, I have a DVD-recorder (which my girlfriend uses now) that can capture the "WORST" VHS tapes that I have. I am wondering how this cheap piece of hardware could do that job so perfectly.

Re: Bogart 3.2c Pal
Volker that is just what happened to me with 3.1 the dropped frames especialy in long recordings like ceremony /speeches.
I recorded a wedding ceremony in the machine and it split it up in 3 scenes even though I never stopped the camera.
Very enoying when you try to use Quadcam.
I installed 2.4 recorded the same tape in the machine and there were no frames missing it was just one scene.
I reported this to MSDE and some one from tech support wrote back to me with the answer NOT to reuse the tapes.
That is silly to me because it was not a tape issue as it recorded fine in 2.4 but then later when I tried again
the same tape and it recorded fine in in 3.1 so that is a mistery.
I went back to 2.4 for a while -I am now on 3.2 and hope this is fixed I will know today if this is all good.
Could you please report this so I am not the only one with this problem.
PS. Because they didn't think there was a problem they haven't tried to fix it.

That's how i capture dross in to my S4000 by playing it through a Panasonic DVD recorder which will record anything because and this is a guess it has some form of a TBC fitted.
Panasonic i guess thought that a lot of customers would be copying old VHS tapes on to disc which would not be in the best condition so instead of have customers complaining they may have fitted a TBC so if they can put one in equipment costing £100 to £150 i've to ask why can't MS put the same in the new range up twenty times more.

Hi Jim
My pleasure, there are a few the one i'm most familar with is coal dust or tiny bits of coal, what you would get in the bottom of a household coal bunker when you were getting to the last of your coal stock, came in handy to bank your fire up for the night.
Became a slang word for rubbish, another word used to describe bad footage is "crap" which i think also applies to a bad hand in a game of cards

Re: Bogart 3.2c Pal
Back in the 'good old days'? when Britain was the workshop of the world, parts of the country was covered in dirty hot dangerous foundries that produced lots of castings from small ornaments to the engines for the Titanic. When the metal was smelted (melted) in huge furnaces and pots lots of rubbish floated to the top, this dross was scraped off the surface before the clean metal was pored into the moulds to shape the product. This dross was then dumped in piles near the foundry. So instead of working in dirty factories people now work in call centers. (I could go on.)

Alan, it still could be called dross. LOL
My mom always told me that happiness was the key to life.
At school they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up.
I said “happy" and they told me I didn’t understand the question.
I told them they didn’t understand life.
