Need some help with the Casablanca Avio

Hello,

I just bought a used Casablanca Avio system with software version 1.10. It's for my wife. I am trying to learn it. I have two questions. I have all the scenes in the time line on the edit with in the order I want them. Is it possible to now scan through the time line without having to watch the whole thing in real time. Also
how do I do a Fade in at the very start of the video and the very end. I use final cut, so I know editing. Just don't know this system.

Tony,

This system uses Storyboard editing versus the Timeline editing you are use to.

Both types of systems have strengths and weaknesses.

Storyboard editing is easier for a newbie editor to learn how to handle in general.

You can use Split or Trim to manually scroll through a Scene in the Scene bin at whatever speed you prefer.

You use the Transition "Crossfade" for fades (or Color Fade).

You need to use the New function to Create a Color Scene of the Color you want to Dissolve up from (aka: Black is the usual choice).

You go into the Transition menu, scroll to Crossfade, choose Add up under the Storyboard.

If you want a fade duration other than the default one second go into Range and set it to what you want.

Use the Create button to render anything.

To elaborate on what Tim wrote. (And I invite Tim's input on the following):

When using the early versions of the operating system we found that the black created by using the software in the New section could create problems - therefore we would import a black clip created by the camera or take an existing clip in the scene bin and bring the color and luminance down to create black. The volume would be muted in the audio mix screen. I don't remember when that got fixed but the software has come a looong way since the early days.

I believe that there is way to scroll through the storyboard whereby you insert a short clip of a color into the clip in the storyboard where you'd like to start scanning. Use the range function to move it forward and backwards. When you're done you remove the insert. I'm not sure if that changes things like transitions or image processing effects that you already have in the storyboard.

Agreed, I had forgotten about that, but there was a bit of an issue with using the internally generated Scenes.

I remember just to play safe I always Split off a section of live video to the duration I needed and then as you mentioned used Control image to bring down parameters to effect a black look, muted the audio and used Create Scene to make a black Scene for such use.
