Firmware update help
Greetings! I am using Arabesk 2 on a Kron with firmware v1.44. The machine is asking for an update. Can I download the update from the Macrosystem website? I am unable to find it on the site. What firmware update do i need to upgrade to?

Re: Firmware update help
I have a Kron+ running Arabesk 2, Pioneer DVR-112D/Firmware 1.21 (7/2007). At one time Macrosystem had a download for DVD recorders, but with the variety of available products I'm assuming you need to go to the manufacturer's website. My Kron has never prompted me to update the firmware and I don't know how it would know to do so since it doesn't connect to the internet.
If you are having problems with your DVD burner, swapping it out is fairly cheap and straightforward. Let us know more specifically what your issues are.

Re: Firmware update help
Thanks for the reply. It is a unit on loan from the dealer and I was afraid of trying to burn the DVD for fear of damaging the unit. From what you say it seems OK for me to try and see what happens. I am using a DVR 103 burner. Do you think i should try it?

Re: Firmware update help
This information is buried in the MacroSystem US website in the FAQ pages. The last line reads
Look here: http://macrosystem.us/index.php?pr=DVD_Questions#faq0
You can find some info on your system by going to Arabesk and clicking on Settings. You may find the currently installed firmware version listed there. From the MSUS page it looks like the DVR-103 should have version 2.0 or later installed.
Since this is a loaner I think this should be your dealer's responsibility as he should be more knowledgeable and has access to more resources.
You do not need to go to the Pioneer website. In fact the Kron may not recognize a DVD with firmware updates if it was designed to run exclusively on PCs.* Please install the firmware update immediately so as to avoid possible damage to the DVD burner due to new "HighSpeed" DVD media ("4x" or "8x").

Re: Firmware update help
Thanks. I had found that info. The dealer is no help. I had left a message with Macrosystem tech support this morning so I am hoping when they call me back they can tell me how to download and install the firmware update. I am all the way in Jamaica and expected that this loaner was in good working condition. It is no use if it can't burn DVDs as I have no alternative authoring programs.
I have a wedding DVD to deliver today so i'm hoping for the best.
Thanks for all the help.

Re: Firmware update help
Can you go into Settings and choose 1X for the write speed? That should prove to be a safer option than letter the burner choose max speed.
If you can download the All Software CD to a PC and burn it as a Disc Image, it should be useable to upgrade the firmware.

Yes, defininetly go to settings and use the slowest write speed. You should be fine then even with the faster media. Good luck and let us know how you make out!

Re: Firmware update help
It's unusual for machines to 'ask' for software.
However I presume that this message is appearing when you launch Arabesk ?
If so this seems to suggest that the dealer has already tried to update the firmware and it has failed.
Therefore, as the firmware is already on the machine, it'll periodically suggest to you that an update is necessary.
Best thing to do at the moment is to follow the above advice or to try and use slower DVD's e.g. 4x, if you can find them.
