Loading video from Canon Vixia HG20 to S-4100

Post by DaleVenvertloh »

I just recently purchased a S-4100 and have been trying to load video from a Canon Vixia HG20. The HG20 has a HDMI output but unfortunately the S-4100 does not have a corresponding input. Among the accessories the HG20 came with is a cord that looks to be a firewire connection on one end and a USB connection on the other. I tried to input video using this cord but either I did not use the correct USB port on the 4100 or made some other mistake as the camera seems to be searching for a DVD burner to download to.

Any helpful suggestions on how to best input the video will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Hello Dale,

A quick-check on the Specifications and the manual from the Canon Vixia HG20 shows it to be an AVCHD camcorder. One of the cables that you should have is a mini-USB to USB. That should mate with your Casablanca S4100 -- you will need to set your project (Project Settings to HD) and adjust the appropriate screen resolution to what you shot in, then it should import in the Record menu via the USB icon (trident logo). See Bogart V3 manual for details and your camcorder manual for specifics to get your camera to download.

Hope that helps!

Chet

Chet,

Thanks for the prompt and helpful info. I believe that perhaps I did not have the project set for the correct screen resolution. In any event the video now seems to be downloading into the S-4100. Out of curiosity, will the download rate be 1 to 1 or will it be at a higher rate?

Thanks again for saving me much time in trying to figure out the correct procedure.

These are nice little cameras. AVCHD must be trans coded upon ingest in the 4100...this is why it takes a little longer to import. the trade off is that once it is loaded you can edit very quickly.
