Hard Disc Full when only 9% used.

I have a Avio DV about 10 years old. System version 1.8
I have 35 min of video on 1 project & cannot load anymore video. I get the Hard Disc Full notice when my disc space says only 9% being used. I have no other video & it says I have over 400+ min available. I have the space but my unit isn't reading the information i am getting on the screen.
What can I do? Can I remove ALL my programs & reload or is some of these factory installed?

Company says I should reload my software with system card but when I went to the site I could not find install directions.

There was an old false full hard drive bug on the SE1 OS, but I thought it was addressed prior to SE1.8.

When that hit the only fix was a full, destructive install.

You had to insert the OS Smart Media card, power up and follow the onscreen directions.

This loses all video/audio on the drive and resets all the settings to their respective default positions.

So you then have to reload all the optional software by inserting your Optional Software Smart Edit card.

You don't have to put the activation codes back in though as they are stored on the motherboard and permanently remembered) and customize any settings that you don't use the default settings in and then reload footage and start over.

If you have stuff edited you would want to export to digital tape first so you don't lose the editing.

Is still a problem in 1.10. I have a couple of old units still on this software and I get the drive full bug, when it certainly isn't.

Unfortunately I don't think it's worth upgrading with the cost of the most current software that can be used on the old Avios.

They must have fixed it in one of the SE2 versions then, because I know it was relatively early in the OS evolution that they nailed that one.

You might check with Martyn as you live in England and find out which OS version fixed it and what that would cost.

I know I was still using the Avio at the time and avoiding that bug was worth the upgrade.

I actually had the same issue w/ my S4k. It showed about 72% full but no footage could be loaded- the hard drive was clearly full. After that, I cleared the hard drive, re-loaded the latest OS and have yet to experience that problem again, though I have not loaded much footage since. Still not sure what the issue was.

Only by doing a full, destructive install.

That sounds like you tried the non-destructive install which will not fix anything.

If you do the full, destructive it will remove all video, all audio, fully re-install a squeeky clean copy of your OS and you will need to go in and tweak any settings where you do not use the default settings.

Are you saying you did all this, had a completely empty hard drive, loaded footage back on and experienced the same problem immediately?

I suppose anything is possible (to incur the false full hard drive bug immediately), but it seems more likely that perhaps your hard drive is actually faulty.

If it's the original hard drive that actually would not be surprising as ten years is well past the average life span of a working hard drive.

The only surprise would be that this would be the only manifestation of it's failure.

If this is the issue you need to find an IDE PATA hard drive (getting harder as you are talking old tech) and do the same full, OS install after physically replacing the hard drive.
