Understanding & Converting Arabesk to Other Formats

Post by bvolcjak »

I need to place data from a 1hr. Solitaire DVD onto a website that accepts AVI, MP3, MP4 or Quicktime. The data on the web site ultimately will be played via Windows Media Player. Will my Solitaire DVD need any type of conversion to make this happen? I'm thinking that the conversion would not be necessary since I can play the DVD thru my Windows Media Player on my PC. I just want to make sure I'm on the right track. I'd appreciate any comments on the matter.

You have a couple of options here - to take an Arabesk created DVD and import it into a PC for uploading to a video hosting website. On a Smart Edit OS Casablanca you can either export the original video either directly into a PC (if it will read firewire-firewire) or go to DV tape and then into your PC into a program like Windows Movie Maker.

This process is detailed on my website here: http://www.casablancaexpert.com/articles/youtube (free, public resource section).

If you do not have that project on your hard drive any longer, you can use a program like
Handbrake -- this is freeware for 'ripping' video off DVD (and is available for both Windows & Mac computers). Download software and details here: http://handbrake.fr/downloads.php

Hope that helps!

Although Handbrake is very useful (and free) there are many other programs that do much more too.

This one particularly stands out for me (PC or Mac) as it is so simple. It also offers many format options including various web streaming settings - however it does have a cost, albeit a reasonable one 8-)
