Distorted sound

Hello all,

I did a wedding recently and forgot to lower microphone levels as the band started playing. Sure enough sound outcome in the hall after the band started playing is all distorted now. To much bass and sound like i said is all distorted now. I desperately need any advises, suggestions, ideas, software anything that could potentially fix distorted sound or at least improve it.

I don't think there is any software that can fix this for you Leo if it's truly badly distorted.

I would say you have two basic options.

1. Use use canned music. (although because bands cost more it is likely the bride or someone thought that was worthwhile and so adding canned music to their wedding video is unlikely to be appreciated and perhaps not accepted.

2. Find out where the band is playing next, make a list of the songs played at your wedding that you would like to use and go capture them live at their next gig and then dub that in.

Syncing that in would not be that hard or critical as most of the time your footage will be of things going on and not focused on the band.

Thank you Tim, great idea. I need to check some of other wedding i did i porbably will find same band palying. I may just get lucky.

Some bands have "DEMO" DVD's and TAPES that they show clients. Maybe you can luck out and extract the music if it is a live presentation of a wedding in DEMO form.

Perhaps the band can give you prior clients(if they booked the client themselves) that will have the necessary songs. Most bands have their own repertoire. Offer the client a small gift for compensation like putting their photos in a montage.

If all the music came from the same people and they play together on a regular basis...you got it made. They might not be too crazy about playing wedding music at their next gig .... but they probably get together for a jam session once or twice a month. Contact their leader and ask if you can join their next jam session and you will bring the beer. YOUR IN !

Another option is to just give them a highlight dancing montage consisting of a song or two that you take off a CD. Don't show clips of the band and just focus on the guests having fun on the dance floor; you might be able to get away with that. The key though, is to remove the band in the shots so you don't draw attention to that - chances are they'll get caught up in the fast paced dancing montage and will be happy - if the rest of the video turned out solid, I think you'd be in good shape.

OR....Mute the original audio...add canned music. Dub a simultaneous music-less crowd sounds (i.e. "scene to sample" from the cocktail hour) on another track for ambiance.
