Re: Uploading AVCHD Footage into S4000- Audio/Video Sync Issue

This is interesting... my MOV files are sometimes out of sync but only in finished Arabesk rendered. weird !!
Sometimes everything is ok sometimes its just a few minutes of audio out of sync... and always just in the rendered portion.
And I'm not referring to when I have to sync audio from an external digital recorder i.e. Zoom H4n
Could it be because of the plugged in mic ? whenever I have rendered footage directly from the 5d,7d mic its always in sync.
I can alway fix it but its very time consuming.

My A/V Synchronity set at 0ms

Thoughts ?

Lou,

I have not even begun or tried to render a project. I have simply loaded the original footage and want to remedy the sync problem before it creates more problems later. I had previously tried to work with the "audio sync" adjustment in the settings menu but I don't believe it even allows enough adjustment to cure the problem. I am at work right now, but I believe the "audio sync" adjustment went from -200 milliseconds to +200 milliseconds. I experimented on both sides of that spectrum without solving the problem. I am looking at a "sync deficiency" of around half a second which I believe would be 500 milliseconds. As I said, I can go through the process that Jim outlined above but obviously I would like to avoid the time factor involved as I am looking at about 6 hours of footage I would have to adjust in that manner.

Thanks for your interest in the problem and I welcome any further suggestions.

Hi Folks,
I am importing AVCHD-Footage from my Sony XR-520 cam via USB record since May 2009
and it is all in sync.
S-4000Pro---PAL
Maybe NTSC is the problem?
But since Lou confirmed all is in sync with his cam there must be some other problem.
If it's out of sync at the start of a take eg. 500milliseconds is it the same at the end
or is the time difference incrementing?
Is the audio sync point behind video or in front of video?
I newly today made a sync-test with AVCHD-Footage and it is absolutely sync in HD 1920
or HD 1440 project.

OK...thanks for the reply. I wish I could come up with an answer. There must be a common denominator as to why it does not function all the way around..

Apparently it is not an isolated problem. If you goggle AVCHD audio synch problems, it pulls up a slew of links, discussions, possible resolutions and blogs about it. The scene-sample solution suggested by Lou might be the most expedient and the simplest way to work around it.

This happen to me about a year ago, I mentioned it then. But it happen only in certain places, when I was shooting our vacation footage. I had to use Jim Meekers' method when editing it.

Lou Bruno mention to me about a buffer unloading problem when turning the camera off and on to fast between sequences, which I was doing when I want to only record certain parts of a guy's presentation. It was funny because he was demonstrating a muzzle loaded rifle. When watching the footage you would see the flash and the smoke, ten frames later you would hear the sound.

Since then it wasn't a problem when I made sure the buffer had time to unload when recording to a compact flash card. I was recording everything to the flash card. I would suggest test recording to a compact flash card, then switch to the internal hard drive and see it you have the same results. Just shoot someone talking and turning the record off and on periodically. I just shot some footage in Northern Minnesota of a guy talking about the fur trade business up there. I did turn the camera off and one periodically. Now I'm anxious to see if I still have your problem. I'll do it some time this week

BINGO!! I know a nice gentleman who lost part of his European Vacation due to shutting down the camera before the buffering process terminated.

Another thought here as well: If the SPEED of the card is NOT the recommended speed for a specific video camera, this can result in corruption as the buffering and downloading are effected.

GOSH.....makes me wonder sometimes if tape is a better alternative for crucial and paid projects.
