Casablanca High-End Broadcast Model

Post by JBrooks »

Here are a few features I would like to see R & D someday at MS. I have forwarded this suggestion to Jorg & Eric.

Casablanca High-End Broadcast Model

4:2:2 Color Sampling
Import, Edit, and Export at 50 MB bit-rates (selectable from 18-50)
Full HD format support for high-end HD422 Cameras and decks
HD-SDI and SD-SDI Support (Input/Output via BNC Connectors)
1394 Firewire 800 Support
New Architecture design with large built-in retractable 17 inch 1920 X 1080 LCD screen
Real-Time Play out of story board via HD/SD-SDI without rendering each frame of HD video
Render acceleration feature for HDV and ACVHD story board
Solid State Internal Hard Drive System
Large Array of Video/Audio Ports: USB, DV/HDV, HDMI, DVI, SDI, Composite, Component etc…
Balanced XLR Audio and line inputs/outputs
Full rubber banding control of all FX and Transitions ( I believe Bogart 4 already has this feature in the works)
Full Alpha Channel Support
CB Paint 2 or an equivalent animation program designed for Bogart
Support for SMPTE Time-Code in/out
Blu-Ray Authoring
Render Accelerated DVD Arabesk
Simultaneous multi-source Video/Audio streams input ( live QuadCam Mixing)

Why stop at 4:2:2? And why stop at 50Mbps? If you are going to support HD/SDI....why not support full3G? Shoot for the moon!! 4:4:4:4!! Full uncompressed!

I agree, that is what is great about MS switching to the Linux operating system. All of the above features would be very possible. I know it would take money for R & D, and the unit would be more expensive, but it would make our already great Casablanca systems even more competitive, and bring more opportunity to the broadcast market.

I guess the company that supposedly bought MS, isn't putting money back into MS? I believe it was a tv manufacturing company. LG maybe?

It's a company by the name of Loewe AG.

The vast majority of their sales/profit comes from flat screen televisions, but they do a bunch of other electronic entertainment stuff also.

They purchased MSDE for the TIVO like DVC units that have been pretty successful for the company overseas.
My mom always told me that happiness was the key to life.
At school they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up.
I said “happy" and they told me I didn’t understand the question.
I told them they didn’t understand life.

So I guess that means no money into our editing systems? I was hoping they would try and go after the FC and Premiere users by improving the MS system. Really don't want to learn a new system, but the more I see the way FC and Premiere are advancing, it doesn't seem like a good business decision to dump money into a new MS system.

IMO.....Its just another tool in the toolbox. I have and use, Premiere Pro, FCP and After Effects. Most of the heavy lifting is all done on a Casablanca. I was a trim carpenter and cabinet maker for a long time. I can tell you this.....they make more than 1 hammer for a reason. The more I know about other NLE systems the better off I am. To me its all about education and being diversified.

Seth,
I would love to talk to you about your experience with the other systems. I take the decision to switch to a new NLE very seriously. This is my livelihood and I cannot afford to lose business because the system I use is not up to par and cannot do what the client is asking for.
Please call me if you have time.
Thanks for your input!
