If that price included a very solid bundle of what MSUS calls "optional software" such as the effects and font packs, Twixtor, Quadcam, Deluxe Titler 3D, Powerkey and either Arabesk or better yet, a fully functional "Media Manager" capable of creating SD and HD files compatible with PC DVD/Blu-ray authoring programs. . .

At school they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up.
I said “happy" and they told me I didn’t understand the question.
I told them they didn’t understand life.

Hi Gentlemen on the YES side.
I may be wrong, so please correct me.
Smart Edit runs on VX-Works and Bogart on Linux.
At least Bogart will never run on a Windoze PC

Hans,

This has been discussed at the highest levels over the years and it's do-ability was never questioned as an issue by Company management, just advisability from a financial philosophy standpoint.

And just as VXWorks and Linux based units have virtually the exact same appearing GUI (the look), so too could one compatible with Windows.

Its all very interesting as to what we might like. My guess is that MS make a substantial financial loss on the software they write, its probably a steady on going drain just get it right. Selling hardware is where the margin is I imagine. In the end its the bottom line that determines what our choices are. Ours is a niche market, there is loads of cheap and free software out there that people will use even though it may not do what it claims to do. The best costs a lot, take look at the TVpaint site. That is where our CBpaint came from.

Cheers Alan.

I’d have to say no at this time. At present MacroSystem specifies the hardware and writes software that works on that hardware configuration, similar to Final Cut Pro being written exclusively for Apple computers.

There are problems in software development that arise in beta testing, diagnosing, and fixing those problems where MacroSystem knows exactly what hardware they’re using. Our experience shows us that these problems might get fixed in an intermediate update, or we might have to wait for the next version of the operating system for them to get fixed. We rely on getting help and work-arounds for these problems from MacroSystem US and each other. At least we’re all using the same editing hardware so we don’t have to diagnose hardware related problems. Can you imagine all of us trying to help each other resolve hardware/software conflicts related to the computer itself? The claim "Works right out of the box" would probably no longer be valid.

Our system was designed to be easy to learn and use, and until I have some idea of how much resources Loewe has allocated to the development of Casablanca editing products and support, I would choose to keep things as they are.

Craig,

I agree, if it would introduce a new set of troubles by users having conflicting hardware/software issues, then it would only make matters worse however, Since Loewe is a master and designer of monitors, and TVs, then perhaps they would consider developing a "laptop" size complete system that works exactly like a laptop but with the Macrosystem configured hardware/software combos. It could be a really beefed up laptop that would rock if configured right.

My thoughts.

Most unlikely, they would never get the development costs back. I used to design, and take electronic products through to volume production; the costs are ruinous. These days you have to get all those costs back in the first years (or even months) of the product life.
