A few samples to inspire

Having parked my video business gives me a little more time for personal entertainment and as my interest in the field hasn't diminished I peek in on colleagues work when they share a bit more than I use to have to.

Here are a few I feel worth sharing with my Cassie friends to inspire and perhaps share some ideas for you to perhaps incorporate into your own work in the future.

Primary trends I am noticing:

Most of those I consider that best wedding videogs are cutting way back on slow motion, not eliminating it, but using it for key emotional spots rather than for all shots and I like it.

DSLR use, extra expense (new equipment) and many new challenges (short uninterrupted recording times, an auto-focus not good enough to trust for many situations, inadequate on cam audio, all HD so much heavier processor requirements for editing, etc.), but dang, what beautiful visuals they give.

Much more ambient, live audio and voice over use to tell the story, to emphasize the emotion in place of just dubbing in a song over a bunch of scenes.

Much more work, but very effective.

Most wedding videos have a stereotypical look of a prepackaged montage of slow motion scenes and canned music.

This can look great, beautiful in fact and has been the standard norm for a couple of decades of wedding video, but is also the main reason non-wedding videogs pretty much look down on the wedding video industry, no innovation.

Wedding videogs such as these here are evolving their wedding video product into what I consider a more mainstream experience that I think markets itself well to high end clientelle.

So if that is your market, or you want it to be, this is something to think about.

None of these were done on Cassie equipment, but with the Gen3 machines, any of them could have been.

Great demos! I am noticing with the increasing restrictions placed on videographers and photographers during the ceremony that one has to compensate for the lack of proper angles and other issues during the ceremony, by producing upbeat style trailers, promos and highlights which puts a little spice and edge to you wedding videos. That is one of the many many reasons I encourage my Brides to book their wedding at a true wedding chapel, instead of a typical church where there will always be nutty rules.

Very well done wedding promos.

Thank you for sharing this Tim... I AM inspired by this new wedding look
I spoke in a webisode we produce up here in Ottawa,Ontario Canada that things in the wedding video industry was _stuck_ in the '80's in my view.
There was a sameness about every wedding video I saw & I could see this new trend happening in the big cities... less was more.
just because you deliver 4 hrs of wedding video to your client does not necessarily make it more compelling (this is my opinion).
So in this age of fast pace intense MTV style montages I think that this look is a good fit for the new generation of brides to be.
It also helps to keep me young and have a fresh outlook on things.
It seems that the industry is leaning towards a 30 minutes wedding film (excluding a trailer like your posting)
This is exactly what we deliver and add the reality show ceremony and speeches.

Although a couple of the recaps you posted are year end showreels (one has more intense footage to work with inside of 3 minutes)
they show the BEST moments of your wedding day in a film look that stands out from the rest. Its great editing, pace & rhythm.

None of these were edited on a Macrosystem machine but it IS possible to achieve this look & reap the $ benefits.
I still have a lot to learn but feel I'm on the right track... I know I might share more than I should on my 7d/5d thread sorry guys guess I just would love
others in the community to join me in this revolution, get excited & not feel intimidated by the prospect of re-learning everything they have to learn.


I have in the past & am willing in the future to help anyone in the cassie community with equipment & workflow issues they might have
or simply chat about the possibility of shooting exclusively with multiple SLR cameras & edit everything on an Gen III machines

I agree with you Syl and Tim. One Bride I am working with right now wants the upbeat feel to it sort of like an indian wedding I shot a couple of years ago. I try to offer the Bride a choice of music and style she is looking for regarding the re-cap and highlights which will determin the pacing of the editing style etc. Some weddings will still require the slowmotion and soft filter feel. This of coarse can be done with our great Casablancas. Below is the link to the fast pace indian wedding.

Just attended a lecture last week by Dave Williams. The work he produces is outstanding. Really a 21st century style.

I notice some videographers in our area are producing a style reminiscent of the late 1990's.
