Since virtually every other video editing software choice is computer based it apparently is do-able both physically and financially.

The current closed system model has been experiencing steadily declining sales and customer base for many years now, so it isn't like that philosophy is working all that well.

Ultimately, the financial feasibility is MSDE/Loewe's decision and that wasn't what this thread was about anyway.

This was about John's Perfect World and whether customers would be interested and willing to purchase PC based Cassie software.

Yes or No.
My mom always told me that happiness was the key to life.
At school they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up.
I said “happy" and they told me I didn’t understand the question.
I told them they didn’t understand life.

I've enjoyed following the thread and would consider buying a PC version. As I've followed the thread I've also been editing on my Cassi (on the other side of the room) to an increasing sense of frustration. What I really want is all the bugs out of my existing software.

Yes I would buy PC based software, but only if they continue to support what we have. I have no earthly desire to use the Bogart machines. I see so many problems on here with them, that I have no desire to entertain those difficulties. My old Rommee does good and keeps on keeping on. It does all I ask of it and more. Chet keeps teaching me new things so I am happy with it. I'll admit I do mostly Stock car racing so I don't have the customers that demand HD. My customers are perfectly satisfied with SD and I am glad of that. Most of my clientel think Blue Ray swims in the ocean. No Pun intended but thats just where they are as I am. Even as someone suggested, a lap top would be good. I can see where I could use a lap top in many occasions. Thats My $.02 Bob....

The machines are OK, they are built to a very high standard. The software is the problem, that is where the operating issues are.

Truthfully, if the OS software is placed on a PC, the customer base will expand to the younger generation. I am not talking about the younger hard core video enthusiast who would rather work in FCP for in-depth High School and College projects. I am talking about the average young person who wants to keep it simple, send a project to YOU TUBE, via e-mail, or make a simple DVD.

SO, there are two objectives here.

1.) The OS must be kept affordable and simple with more included software than is no offered in the DEFAULT mode. For instance a "light version" of Blue Box World as "kids" really enjoy keying exotic locations of places for green screen backgrounds. I know this as a fact, as my son is a teacher and the "kids" are always introducing different backgrounds.

2.)The OS must be developed to prevent piracy.
Again, I vote YES as long as computer specs. match the operating system/software.

Some interesting points Lou; all leading to the Cassie user base growing as well - sounds good to me.

Yes John, that is correct.

If MS "plays their cards right" with independent PC OS/software, no doubt this will interest new and younger editors not looking for complicated editing.. NEW TEK did so by introducing FAST EDIT.
Schools, in particular, who already own PC based computers will be attracted to MS software. Since school budgets are being cut across America, it will be less expensive for schools to purchase software only rather than an entire proprietary hardware/sofware combo. This would fit right into a schools budget and at the same time introduce MS products to a new generation of young people.

Yes, there will be a person from MSUS. It will not be Eric or Jörg......it'll be a surprise. So stay tuned for more information later.

Remember the discount price on attending the "March Get Together" runs on on Monday Jan. 31st. So fill out your registration forms that you download from the MGT site: "http://www.marchgettogether.com and mail them to me at the address listed on the form. The full schedule of events is also done now and if you haven't been getting e-mails from me about the MGT, I probably don't have your e-mail address in my list.

So send me an e-mail and request that I add you to my list.....even better go to the web site and go to the "Who Are We" page and fill in the form there and it will automatically be sent to me so you will be getting all the information as it is available.

Just to show you what you have been missing, I have sent out seven full page e-mails about the MGT. with stuff that you need to know about it. The list of presenters and subjects is impressive. This will be the best ever.....and yes we will be shooting a very short movie using Hollywood style techniques, using a DSLR as the camera in High Definition and short Depth of Field. You don't want to miss that.

Sorry to put this in this location but I wanted to answer the question about the MGT.
