poor text quality in Arabesk 3

Post by KimSWilliamson »

Good afternoon Everyone,

Ready to play "Stump The Experts?"

Ever since I installed text fonts from my computer into Renommee, the text fonts do not look good, in fact they look very jaggedy edges.

This occurs now when I am in trim window in editing, and when making still shots from scenes

The worst though is when I make film titles in Arabesk, no matter what font I use now, it looks awful! Very jagged edges! Even when I play it on TV in seperate DVD player, the film text looks awfully jaggedy!

What happened?

Does it have something to do with the flat screens (LCD) ?

I know when LCD screens are not hooked up via HDMI cables, nothing is crisp as it should be - mine are hooked up by s-video.

Also, how do I delete projects from my LaCie external hard drive to free up space?

You can only use True Type fonts with Smart Edit. The font name will have TT near the font name if it is a True Type font.

I don't think I've deleted anything from my LaCie external hard drive yet, but I was curious so I tried to look through some of the manuals. I couldn't find anything. Chet Davis, the Casablanca Expert, gave a free webinar on using the Archive functions. This link will take you to the Public Webinar Resources on his website http://www.casablancaexpert.com/categories/webinarpost Scroll down to Episode 15 from September 8, 2009. I didn't watch it, but I'd guess if you do you'll be closer to finding your answer.

Then again, this whole problem could be reminiscent of early Mercury space capsules, where there were a few details that the engineers never thought about....

Thanks Craig for your advice and resources.

Now I notice, that ever since I tried exporting PPT presentation slides into jpgs, into the Renommee, now there is some corruption of inserts in my editing bin?

Example - I took a power point slide with a photo and text,(that is the bugaboo with PPT - the text), exported into jpg highest quality, then exported into Renommee via Photo Studio.

then i would make a still shot of the converted ppt slide (which is now a jpg in Reno), from the editing bin - special - still scene, make it say 10 seconds to insert over background video (of presenter talking). The still shot that was made in the Renomee has very, very poor resolution, like all distorted text, the whole still shot looks almost like a very bad double exposure.

This has just happened recently..I have had the Reno for over 4 years, and never ever had anything so weird occur. I do inserts for every job (mainly seminars and workshops and commercials).

could there be a bug in the Renomee? I recently sent it in to Macro, as it shut down one day and would not boot up. Of course they could not find anything wrong with it, sent it back and it has been working ok, but does have some other weird stuff fluttering on the screen when it is booting up (remember the old horizontal flickers on TV of long ago when you turned on the set and had to wait till something actually came on? Maybe you are too young to remember that!)

anyway,if anyone knows anything about any of these issues, I sure would appreciate input - please dont' say "destructive re-install" - I got 3 large projects to finish on deadline!

operating system 8.1

I thought that if you're using a JPEG that you brought into Photo Studio, that you create the still scene in Photo Studio - not in Smart Edit. After you create the scene from the photo in Photo Studio and exit the program, the clip you created is in the Scene Bin of the Edit menu.

You should have your editor plugged into a UPS with AVR. That's Uninterruptible Power Supply with Automatic Voltage Regulation. Electrical brown-outs can cause problems and damage in addition to those caused by voltage spikes. This may help with some of the weird problems you've been seeing. Since the problem may be with the monitor, I'd plug that in too.

Yes, I remember seeing lines when we turned on our Dumont television as a boy, but you may be too young to remember that brand ;) Here's a picture http://www.tvhistory.tv/1955-Dumont-RA321.JPG

I would back up everything and perform a destructive install as soon as you can. The longer you go without performing this operation, the more likely the operating system will develop problems. At the very least, I would try deleting all problem clips you made from JPEGs using Still Scene in the Special menu .

Many thanks, Kim
