HI all,
I got a projector with variable speed control knob. There is still a flicker when I tape the film set on the fastest speed. It never occured to me that the speed still would not be fast enough to meet the 20 fps. Soooo, I need to know a specific projector/model that would go fast enough to eliminate the flicker when I tape it. Anyone have any information?
Jim, you mentioned a couple of brands. Do all of their machines project fast enough?
Thanks.

Try slowing it down. if it has 18 / 24 FPS, set it to the 18 FPS. If it only has one variable speed, lower the speed from wide open to eliminate the flicker. The adjustment should be near the middle of the speed ranges. What brand/model projector are you using?

Re: 8mm projector for film transfer
Thanks for your response Bob. It is a Chinon S2000. I searched to find out what the fps range is on the projector but was unsuccessful. I'll try playing with it some more. When I slowed it down initially, it didn't seem to stop the flicker. But maybe I didn't do it carefully and slowly enough.
Thanks again.

Re: 8mm projector for film transfer
Yes Bonnie,
Slow it down slowly so that you can see the difference. It should be about half way through the adjustment. Can you hear the mechanism actually changing speed. The control may turn but it might not be actually slowing the projector's FPS down. you should be able to get the flicker to go away easily with that machine if it's mechanically changing speeds as you project on the screen. Remember the goal is somewhere near 20 FPS.
