Seagate 1TB problem

Post by dixons »

Have just purchased a Seagate 1TB external hard drive. Connected it to Casa (4000 pro) and asked it to back up a project to the unit. Back up failed. Tried several times making connections before and after switching on etc but has failed on each occasion.

Connected Seagate to PC (windows XP) and tested it was functioning by transferring a few documents back and forth. Worked OK.

Was advised to try to Format (re Format) on PC before connecting it to Casa. Did so but still failed to back up project(s) (several different ones tried).

Cannot understand why, when this particular make and model is the recommended unit for compatibility with Casa, that it wiil not recognise/function with it.

Read somewhere that store'n save would let the Casa format Seagate to make it function but, when I was 'researching' which particular drive to purchase, there was no suggestion that Seagate 1TB wouldn't plug and play without store'n save.

I do not have store'n save but don't think I should have to spend another £130 to buy it to find out if that solves the problem and maybe find out it doesn't!

I would be extremely grateful for any suggestions that will resolve the situation.

Wow! Thanks for such a prompt response Lou. Someone else had suggested the Fat 32 route to me but said I would only be able to store 32gb thereafter. Does this programme override this problem and do I just need to connect Seagate to PC and follow instructions?

That 32GB limit information is incorrect, once correctly formatted to the FAT32 format it will allow the entire drive as a single partition.

You do lose some capacity for the hierarchy, but you get a good 90 plus percent of the capacity.
My mom always told me that happiness was the key to life.
At school they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up.
I said “happy" and they told me I didn’t understand the question.
I told them they didn’t understand life.

Lou/Tim,

Great result after using the suggested link to format the Seagate. Have successfully backed up ongoing projects with the exception of one, for which I'll tender a separate request to the forum for advice.

Many thanks for taking the time and trouble to help me solve my problem.

kind regards,
