another howzit done

Post by videojim »

I am wanting to put an arrow on the screen, pointing down at a player on a field. How is this done? Thanks!

Jim,

I would use the 'Graphic' in the Title Menu and select an arrow (or other suitable graphic) from the Image Pool. If you have Object Tracer you'll have arrows and even if not, you will find arrow/s in the produce labeled 'DVD Button' under 'Type-Images' in the Image Pool.

You can then modify the graphic box to the size and position you desire and select the most appropriate title effect. I like your question so much (that others can benefit as well) I am going to produce a video tutorial on the topic, will be available tomorrow.

By the way - I would suggest or recommend making your Forum Subject a little more descriptive... something like 'Howzit done: adding arrow to a video'. That way more folks would have a better idea whether they can help or not. Just my 2-cents.

Chet

Jim, I produce about 100 sports videos a year where I need to identify the player. I did not have the font package that has the arrows until about 2 weeks ago. I have always made my arrows in akaba until then.

You can also use the < and > symbols. That's what I used recently. Worked just fine.

Hello Jim,

You can have the arrow follow the player around the field using "Object Tracer". It's a little complicated but it works.

Re: another howzit done - adding arrows/graphics

Post by CasablancaExpert »

Just realized I meant to post this sooner - here is the link for the 8-minute tutorial video I created to address this request: Using Graphics Box to Add Arrow (Graphic) to a Video Scene
http://www.casablancaexpert.com/articles/20110315

This is presently a public resource - will become a Members Only after 30 days, but this will give folks the opportunity to learn from it (and get a sample of my teaching available elsewhere on the site for Members).

NOTE: If you have Arabesk 4, you have a collection of 58 graphics/images under the 'DVD Button' in the Image Pool (shown how to access in this short video). If you don't have Arabesk 4 then the suggestions by Jeff & Bob may prove useful.

Chert

This is a Video I did for a local Athlete. I use the arrow on a still frame before the play continues. You can use this technique for pretty munch any sport. Hope this Helps.

That was a good example of the application Rick, and using a still frame allows the viewer to ensure they identify the subject. I have also used Hot Spot (part of Effects Pack 7) and Spot (Magic Lights/2) for this purpose... though the positioning requires some finessing (move to upper left corner of subject instead of right-on).
