I guess its my turn
I was editing with my Renommee when it came up with a box that said a unrecoverable problem had occured and the computer must shut down. I didn't think much of that because it has done that several times in the past but it has always restarted and all I lost was the very last edit i'd made. This time it reboots and comes up with a box that says it was not shut down properly and when I click on that to acknowlege it it comes back with the box agin that says an unrecoverable problem has occured and the computer will shut down. It keeps doing that. I forced a shut down and it did the sane thing. I then unplugged it and let it sit for 45 minutes. When I attempted to restart it it did the same thing. I have unplugged it again. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks Bob....

I would try to install the OS on that particular drive. Maybe it helps to "repair".

Yeah, I'd try the non-destructive install to see if it can break it out of the nasty cycle it is in.
My mom always told me that happiness was the key to life.
At school they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up.
I said “happy" and they told me I didn’t understand the question.

Re: I guess its my turn
Thanks Guys for your responses. I haven't tried to put that hard drive back in since I discovered it worked with another. I was able to finish my promo and the weeks program and I just got copies in the mail. Unless something has changed I don't think I can do anything with that drive. It wouldn't even let my Renny boot up. It had that nasty error box every time. How can I re install the OS? Bob...

The Ren uses the bootable OS CD, doesn't it?
So you put an OS CD in and power up and see if that will get you to the install screen rather than this power up/error cycle.
If so, try just removing the OS CD and go on, if it goes back to the error cycling try re-inserting the OS CD and choosing the non-destructive install when given the choice.

Re: I guess its my turn
Well just let you all know where its at. I have brand new 500GB hard drive sans all my projects that were on there of which I don't have any idea what was there. OH BOY! now the fun starts. The soft install didn't work so I did the hard install and it seems to be normal except its empty. I thank all you who endeavered to help. I appreciate it. Bob...

Re: I guess its my turn
In all the years of my involvement with Casablanca products I have never found that an update install fixes anything (but I still suggest it's worth a try) . Full install completely wipes the drive of o/s, software and projects, and generally fixes most problems other than a failed hard drive. (Don't forget to re-install Arabesk and any other additional software products). When the red box appears the problem can simply be a bad transition, bad clip or corrupt project. If one of the former you can sometimes delete the offending clip(s) or move to projects and at least save them in case the problem gets worse. Then carry out a full installation. It is worth remembering that Casablanca editors are computers and as with any computer, important work should be backed up, just in case. It is a pain to do but probably not as painful as losing hours of work.

Re: I guess its my turn
Thanks Martyn I was able to salvage the drive. Every thing seems to be working well now. I did have a incidence yesterday afternoon wher I got the red box a couple times. I reversed 2 scenes and put a new one on the front and it took it. I didn't change the one that had been in the front. I am doing backups on DV tape. I have gotten that box most of the time when I have a scene that get corrupt some way. I can usually tweak it one way or another. I don't understand it but it is what it is. How long have you been editing with Casablanca? I think I got my first one in 2000. Thanks Bob...
