Time code burn in

Post by RonaldPawlak »

I seem to have a problem getting my final DVD or tape burn with time code embeded in the video. I finish the story board and go to finish screen, check Casablanca time code. Select where to place the font in the video and it shows that it is there. I even tried it with the time code and the date and time.
But when I dub it to tape or try to burn a DVD with time code in it, it does not appear on either one. I want time code on the video so it can be review by a customer for corrections. Never tried this before.

Hi Ron,
In order to install the burned in time code to the finished product for the client to make selections and corrections to a video. First you have to go to the finish screen and highlite the Casablanca time code, the font you want to use and if date selected. Then you must locate where you want the time code to be placed on the screen. When you go back to the finish screen, look at the top of the screen and you will see the CREATE button highlited. When you select it you will see the video showing the time code being burned into the video story board. When completed it will be located in the scene bid as one of the scenes. Put it into the story board and burn your DVD or tape master. Yes I did answer my own question, if you haven't noticed.

Thank you for both answers. It's been a while since I've had my eyes checked, and I have been under a lot of stress lately.....

Ron,

In the old Avio days I just output analog via the monitor output to tape.

I knew they had added this capability digitally for DVD and firewire, but couldn't remember how and don't have a unit any longer to play with to remind myself so couldn't help.

Did you figure it out yourself or did someone contact you off board?

Thanks for sharing it with the others here.

At school they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up.
I said “happy" and they told me I didn’t understand the question.
I told them they didn’t understand life.

Yes Tim, I figured it out my self by, accident. I happen to go to the finish screen to archive to tape the video I edited today, so I wouldn't loose my days work. You know, back up your hard drive.
I notice the Casablanca Time Code promp was still checked. Then, I looked up and saw the Create button was highlighted and wondered why. So I clicked it and lo and behold there was the video showing me the video being time coded in a little window. The more I play and work with the unit, the more I learn. Now we all are a little smarted.

Hi Ron,

It is my understanding (with Bogart at least) that this 'feature' is only to output to tape. They were going to implement something to allow copying said footage to a DVD, and creating a scene in the scene bin would be the ideal answer, but so far this hasn't happened.

I'll check it out . . . in PAL anyway . . .

Hi MichaelD,
Yes you are correct, I found that out last night after trying several times. So I burned a copy to tape, it worked fine, then reloaded it into another project and with arabask burned a copy to DVD. A round about, time comsuming way of doing it, but that is the only way it will work. I was going to mention that today when I discovered it, but you beat me to it.

Yes, it would really be nice to at least have it create a copy to the scene bin and then put it in the story board, so with arabask you could burn it to DVD.

Nice is not the word - it's almost essential :!:

Think how many DVD's you could send for approval by the client and NOT have them rip off multiple 'extra' copies because you have put this code on it :D

If a user of a regular Smart Edit series OS (non-Bogart) has CB PAINT 2, there is a TIME CODE application that allows the editor to burn-in TIME CODE and then send the scene(s) back to the scene bin thus to the Story Board.
The editor, in CB PAINT, can even assign a numerical sequence to the time code of his choosing. CB PAINT will work with Gen 2 systems only.

What about those who have purchased the cutting edge Bogart machines that own CB PAINT? ;)
