Avio DV freezes on initial screen

Hi all--

When I turn on my Avio DV, Smart Edit 3.6d, I get the initial Casablanca / Avio screen with an hourglass in the top left corner. Typically this takes 5-10 sec before going to main screen, but now it just freezes there.

I tried disconnecting everything but the power and monitor cable; leaving on for an hour to see if it would finally get going; switching voltage selector; and turning off overnight.

Then I tried powering up with the Smart Edit smart media card in, but it won't go to the install screen; instead, there is an icon in the upper left, Z Z Z (evidently meaning unit is asleep).

Any suggestions?

Do you have a monitor on top of the unit. I had a problem with my Avio like yours and I had a monitor on top of my the unit. Took the monitor off and solved the problem.
I didn't figure out the problem myself but someone on the forum. Hope it works.

Only two things spring to mind, either hard drive failure or less likely RAM problem.
